Free urban music festival showcasing loads of local bands (11 venues 99 bands). Should be excellent.

Is this that thing they did a few years ago that was supposed to be headlined by UB40 who didn't turn up?

It was a good day anyway, good weather and plenty of beer. I didn't even bother going to the main stage area as the atmosphere was so good in the pubs. Think it's passed me by the last couple of years.

That BOMfest has been really good the last few years as well and I'm not even into the type of music played at these things.

Not quite, it's just in pubs, no main stage. The organisers reckon it's a first for Barnsley.

There's a range of music (indie, acoustic, pop, rock, classic covers), if not something for everyone at least something for most. The key thing is they are local bands; mainly Barnsley with some Sheffield, Wakefield and Leeds bands thrown in.

I take it you mean it's the first time Barnsley has done this, because other towns have done similar.

Yup other towns have, not happened in Barnsley before, so a first for Barnsley.

My brother-in-law is one of the two organisers. They've put a hell of a lot of work into this, he has done the website himself (www.liveinbarnsley.co.uk). There are bits about the bands and plenty of videos on there. I hope it all goes well for them on the day, it's a free festival and trying to promote great local music. There's some cracking bands on - the Chronicle is supporting it and there's usually articles in the classified pull-out each week. The two organising it are the lead singer and lead guitarist in CRY.

It's good. Live at Leeds do the same thing, albeit much bigger and ridiculous queues to get in anywhere. Can only be a good thing, hope it goes well
