'Overachieve' 'The first team hasn't been the focus' 'We need to try different things' This is going to be interesting.
He also said staying up would be a success. Keith would have been given right grief for that. Plenty of comments 'seemed' IMO to be criticisms aimed at the board. Good.
.. 'The first team hasn't been the focus'... Well whats been the focus then... certainly not the marketing or the fans...?
Certain people dwelling on what we haven't got rather than what we have. "Treating them like Championship players," is another key phrase. That didn't sound like the keynote interview, too much background noise. Likely a one to one post-interview interview.
In fairness, he did say that he wouldn't set targets until he knew what squad he'd be working with which I think is fair enough. If Steele, Cranie, Kennedy etc. don't sign, we don't manage to bring in O'Grady and we can only manage a few average signings, I'd probably take finishing 4th bottom.
Same budget as last year, **** me they must have blown the Stones, Davies and cup run money on that weekend at St George's park...
I'm not criticising Flitcroft for saying it. I never criticised Keith for saying it. But my point was, he's able to say it and get away with it. Keith wasn't.
that interview wasnt possitive IMO. was hoping for abit more transfer kity.........and whitey is right keith would av been shot for that comment. but a cnt help but love flicker
If hes winning and brings this feeling that we have around this club now, he can say what he wants. Love Flicker. More than a manager.
Initiatives, getting people back to Oakwell, knows what we as a town want. Can't wait for the continuation of our 'adventure'.
I think it's broadly very postive and realistic. Flicker looks at how things can be achieved rather than Hill's habit of pointing out why things cannot be achieved. Interesting when he mentions thinking of ways to get more fans in etc, it seems he's having to do the Board's job for them there. Surely to goodness the Board (or basically Rowing) could handle that and allow Flicker to concentrate purely on football? It'll be an exciting and interesting summer that's for sure.
I hope it's just interview talk. I'm confident that the budget will be bigger than last year and we just didn't want to broadcast it in the public domain so players/clubs inflate what they ask for from us.
