That is completey at odds with your earlier post though, which said there is only one interpretation of the Quran. And as you rightly point out:

' Being blamed by everyone because some nutjack used their religion to murder people, and having their faith misused in this way is probably very annoying.'

If we differentiate between individual nutjacks and the religion then fundamentalism can't succeed.

It's not at odds because the point I was making was that because of the way the Kuran came about. (Word of Allah spoken directly to Mohammed word for word etc etc ) it makes it that much easier for the fundamentalists to push a strict adherence agenda for that very reason. I am in no doubt that the hate preachers remind their followers all the time how what they are are hearing is the actual word of God and cannot be misunderstood. It makes the message that much more powerful. You don't argue with the man upstairs. The problem many 'moderate' muslims have is that they have trouble arguing with it as well for that very reason. The solution to the problem though is that they have to. It is for Muslims themselves to defeat fundamentalism, not anyone else.

That could only be the case if Islam existed in a bubble. The greatest fuel of Islamic fundamentalism is western interventionism and the demonisation of their religion.

No difference at all. Is that what you aspire to be like, terrorists who behead people?

Personally I want to be as far removed from that kind of behaviour as I possible can be.

Only just heard about the Woolwich attack. Instinctive reaction for intellectual insights was BBS. It hasn't let me down. Always guarantees some quality thinking.
