Too early to say just because he's got a good score on his home ground against one of the lowest ranked test nations. Fingers crossed he turns out to be brilliant longterm and becomes a legend after getting runs away at the likes of Australia and South Africa.

Still reckon he'll be a good un n now they try to stick by their squad

I would like to see him open the batting with Cook when Pietersen is fully fit.Compton doesn't cut it for me.Too slow as well.

You just know he's going to get runs every time he comes to the crease.

I can see him opening the batting for England soon.

I can see him as the next captain and being opening bat. He is already being lined up as the replacement for Cook

    Looked good today.

DB3K. Root hasn't just come on to the seen. He's been known about for years. Looked good todat along with his fella yorkie down the other end. If Bairstow had got to hundred i think England would have changed it but i'm not sure.

England would like to see Root open or them but they only have a 4 day game against Essex before the ashes starts. Like the day he up his SR today though.

He probably means the England scene - score should be enough - not a good 4th innings wicket usually

    I'll just leave that there.

If Compton doesn't start scoring runs soon I can see Root opening the batting with Cook and KP coming in for Compton.
