watching the play offs and hull recently

We are as good as any of these teams. none of the them are better over 90 mins than we have been since new year.

Its what happens over 46 that matters, we need to put together more than just half a season of the good results, here`s hoping we have the man to do the job.

 

Yep we played as well or better than most top teams IMO and we also had the consistency factor in the second part of season to be challenging but tbh am not gonna expect too much as long as the players are giving 100% and we go into games with at least a chance of getting something, a thing we've lacked in last few seasons then I will be highly satisfied.

 

We've shown we can do it for half a season but can we carry it on for a full season? I think a lot depends on the comings and goings in the close season. If we can keep our squad together we'll only need a couple of quality additions to turn us into a very good championship outfit.

We managed to maintain playoff form throughout all those injuries with a threadbare squad so with a bit of luck who's to say we can't maintain it for the whole of next season?

Unfortunately I don't think everyone will resign so Flicker will have a lot of work to do. I can see us finishing 14th.

 

14th ? That would represent a great improvement

 

I know, we've shown a great improvement that would have seen us finish 4th over a full season. I reckon halfway between relegation and playoffs is about right given that I think we'll lose a couple of players.

 

I think we'll run away with the league. A hundred points, a hundred goals, Flicker to receive a knighthood and Chris O'Grady to lead the line forEngland in the 2014 World Cup.

 

Don't be silly. There's no chance of England getting to the World Cup.

 

Yes but we are little old Barnsley. Just staying up is an achievement for us. It's a privilege just being in the Chsmpionship.

 

Not this season. There's half the division that we can consider our size. Plus a couple of the bigger clubs that may struggle. Aim for the top you never know.

 

I'm putting £100 on that we get in the top six next season..........I haven't seen anything in the play offs that has changed my mind about this

The only reason that we may not get there is because of potential 'burn out' of the players due to the effort that Flicker expects every time a Barnsley player walks onto the field...........so we need enough players and quality players at that to see us through the coming season

This time next year we could be on our way back from Wembley

I agree Dave. I'm just being facetious. I'm just bored of the small attitude we have.

 

Nudger, for once I agree with you. I don't think we will finish in the tip six but for once let's just dream big and aim for the top and see where it takes us. I'm sick of seeing not failing as being a success. That mentality is the reason why we are constantly in the mire. Unfortunately it starts at the top.

 

Aim for the moon if you miss you'll end up among the stars

 

The route Keith Hill tried to take was the wrong one in my eyes. He attempted to lower everyone's expectations so that if we did stay up, we'd see it as an achievement and be relatively happy with the season we'd just had. 'Beat the bookies' was a prime example. However, while avoiding relegation may keep the supporters happy in the short term that attitude isn't going to attract any extra fans into Oakwell. Our crowds will slowly dwindle and we'll be increasingly up against it season on season, before the inevitable happens.
Unfortunately for Keith Hill, he wasn't even managing to keep us in this division. Not even his rants about parachute payments, attendances and the spending power of other clubs could lower our expectations to the point where relegation was acceptable.

I'd much rather we had a manager who would aim high and fall short, than aim low but achieve that goal. We've had the same thing season after season, aiming to avoid relegation, and just achieving it. It's been hammered into us that we're not able to compete with the rest of the Championship because of our financial situation. Too long we've had managers that have been afraid to aim high for fear of failing and their job coming under question.
However, money doesn't guarantee success, last season was a perfect example of that. There's no reason that with good coaching, management, teamwork and a work ethic, we can't compete with and beat everyone in this league. I'd rather we start the season aiming for promotion because not only will it inspire the fan base and persuade more to buy STs, but it will also instill a bit of belief in the players. If you go out believing you can't do it, then you definitely won't, but the second half of last season has shown exactly what we're capable of, and that's much more than a relegation battle.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts - problem is it has to start from the top.

 

I'd hope Flicker might inspire them into having a bit of ambition.
