I'm now hoping MoWat can put a better line of produce in, along with better advertising and a few more tills and just maybe we'll have a bit of an ASDA on our hands. Metaphor's r us
Dunno whether the jobs are the same or not, I'm sure that will be come apparent in the next few days. it wasn't meant as a criticism of The Don, it was simply a tongue in cheek comment about my perception of the clubs level of ambition over the last few years and how the appointment of a strong figurehead with good connections and experience will hopefully move us to a new level. I'll try to be a little bit less metaphorical in future.
I could be wrong but I don't think his role will be running the football club on a daily basis like Don has done for the last 9 years or whatever. He seems to have a lot of other interests / roles for that to be possible. Certainly seems to have great credentials and connections to be a good a figurehead for the club
The club needs both, someone to run the nitty gritty of the club on a day to the basis and someone to provide, experience, direction, leadership, connections and influence. The latter isn't a 40hrs a week job, but it's by far the more important of the two.
I agree with you there - this is one of many of his Chairmanships - you can hardly expect him to be at the club 5 days a week. Typically this role would be more like one or two days a month at the most. It is exactly what the club needs though, IMO. A fresh approach, with an outsider who has vast experience and contacts coming in to take the club in a new direction. A very positive move, certainly, but I am absolutely positive that he is not replacing the GM. I would like to think that he has some possible replacements up his sleeves though - and I'm sure Rowing will welcome that too.
