I'm no grammar nazi by any means, but reading the chron this morning has been hard work. Apparently Shaun Dooley 'can't wait to next season' and his 'favourite Reds off all time' is Bobby Hassell. Also, 11 year old Scott Nutter 'finished number at 800m and long jump'. Please proofread, Doug!
these are definitely not the only typos. schoolboy really. tbh, they don't even really have to proof-read to eliminate most of this stuff. just hit 'spell check'. amateurs
Yeah I was thinking the same about schoolboy errors. Don't they just copy and paste it all on the computer though..? Bring back Andrew Lodge.
Some years ago I wrote to the Editor of the Chronicle asking his advice on how to get into journalism. I was thinking of leaving the RAF and journalism was a field of employment that interested me at that time. My letter was carefully composed and perfectly typed on my word processor (remember those??). Eventually (it took a while) I got my reply. It was a hand-written letter on a single sheet of small size writing paper (the cheap sort, not Basildon Bond). I was expecting a professionally typed reply but that wasn't the worst of it. The grammar and spelling was very poor. Almost every sentence had an error in it. I was shocked! The Editor of a weekly newspaper could not, on this evidence, string a few sentences together in a coherent way. His reply was discouraging but I had made the decision to continue my RAF career anyway. I won't name the author of this shoddy reply on here but it was towards the end of 1979.
They also accused me of being Scottish, the b*stards! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...720114.-2207520000.1370019235.&type=3&theater
