He's not going to be cheap!

All the best Ben, hope you do a grand job.

It actually sounds like we are going to be run like a proper business. Not sure that's a good thing, mind.

Re: It's on the official site

Reading the white text on black background on the BFC website leaves an imprint on my retina, can one of you new whizzkids do summat about it please? I'm a valued customer and I must warn you, Huddersfield are chatting me up almost daily, after I accidentally joined their mailing list when trying to buy tickets last month.

Barnsley FC can today announce that a new club chief executive has been appointed – just a week after installing a chairman.

Ben Mansford, a sports lawyer is leaving his current role of a director in a global sports marketing and management media group to take up the reins at Oakwell.

With over ten year’s experience in professional sport, mainly as an agent with the Los Angeles based Wasserman Media Group and practising as a sports solicitor at Walker Morris in Leeds, Mansford said, “I hope to be in post very soon and to meeting the fans and stakeholders. We are one town, one club and one team.“

The appointment comes just a week after former Manchester United director Maurice Watkins CBE was announced as board chairman.

Watkins said, “In Ben we have someone who not only understands the management and finances of football and has a good record of business achievement in sport, but also shares our deep desire for Barnsley FC to succeed.

“I am sure he will prove an excellent chief executive and can build on Don Rowing’s legacy of continuous improvement.“

Club owner, retired businessman Patrick Cryne, paid tribute to Rowing’s dedication to Barnsley FC. He said; “Don has been the unsung hero at the club. In his position you draw fire for all the poor decisions made within, but get little credit for the good work done.

“His workload has always been phenomenal and yet he has discharged it completely. I regard him as a good friend and wish him a long and fruitful retirement.”

Mansford, who lives in East Yorkshire, said he believed the club needs to move forward on two main fronts – supporting the manager David Flitcroft in building a successful team but also off the pitch to generate more income.

He said, “ We need Oakwell to become the place where people come to watch football and enjoy themselves during what are still tough economic times.

“It is a great honour and a privilege to be involved in the management of such a historic club. I am looking forward to the challenge of continuing to show that anything is possible.

“Barnsley FC is in good shape thanks to a good job by Don Rowing off the pitch and in recent times on the pitch as David Flitcroft has driven the players forward in remarkable fashion.“

With Wasserman Media, Mansford has negotiated employment contracts in the UK and abroad for players and has handled regulatory issues with the football authorities. He has negotiated commercial licensing and sponsorship agreements as well as handling image and intellectual property rights for clients. He advised Fabien Delph on his transfer from Leeds United to Aston Villa for £8m and advised the administrators of Crystal Palace on the sale of Victor Moses to Wigan for £2m.

As a lawyer at Walker Morris, Leeds he specialised in sports related matters acting for players , athletes, coaches , managers , clubs and agents.

We're run by a bloke who set up the Premier League & now a former football agent.

Two things the vast majority on here claim to hate. I'm interested how folk will react to it.

Surely that's good and players will not take the piss with there contracts.

If he can set up something has good as the premier league then surely he'll improve barnsley football club with sponsorship maybe.

No doubt about it. They're proper professional blokes with history of working in football. I can't believe they'd want to work for Barnsley.

But it still makes me nervous.

Maybe it's me but it makes me think there something going on in the back ground. Maybe not a sale of the club but finance input.

A few have said for a while that we should take half a million quid and give it to a bloke with proper nous to run the show. Maybe we're doing that with the John Stones money.

Id say its a good thing, as it is a business after all. A more business like approach may just generate more/new fans.

The Wasserman group have a office not to far away from here about 6 miles.

You often see sports stars from this area going in and out of there offices.

I wonder if the super reds are going to try to tap into the US market either to find a potential buyer/investor. Or to use the skills of Mansford and Watkins and there contacts here to try to recruit via MLS.
Very interesting times indeed and a great time to support the Mighty Reds.

I can't see any negativity connected with our recent high level appointments. I am totally chuffed that we got somebody with Watkins clout, and now we've got someone in charge of the calibre I've been chelping on about for months. Ben Mansford seems to know football business from front to back, but moreover, he's a COMMERCIAL appointment.

I think we're in a great place now and I don't think it'll take long for us to be seeing the benefits both on and off the field. The latter is a key thing for me- get the off-field strategy right and we will be well on the way to long term stability and financial health.

Up to now its always felt like we were dangling off a cliff season after season with only dental floss to hang on to. I am now expecting this to start to change.

I just hope to god we don't start spúnking money we don't have, so some patience will be required because we need to first get revenue in before embarking on any costly ambitions.

Getting a season ticket is a key part of this and I hope as many people sign up for next season as is possible.

You cannot win on this Forum!

We have been crying out for a new regime to drive our off-field activities and income. We have this in two professional people in Maurice Watkins and Ben Mansford.

I am happy that BFC a removing forward so let's back em......it's an exciting time to be a REDS fan.
