My worry is the longer it drags on with Steele, the harsher the criticism when a mistake inevitably happens next season.

    'Should have bloody gone Steele!'
    'Yer heads gone!'
    Etc

Usually over the dug-outs or into East Stand Lower.

Don't rate him at all, so if Steele does go, then in my opinion, we need another first choice keeper as a priority.

Alnwick didn't play many games, but he made at least 4 goal-costing errors. And had one or two decent games which we won and gained a clean sheet. He was also sent off on debut, for assault, in the last seconds of a match.
It's hardly a BFC resume to be inspired by, is it?

However, he was highly rated once, even represented England at u21 level.

I just feel, considering he's had about 10 different clubs already, that he'd have cemented himself as first choice somewhere by now if he was any good.

But, if Flicker goes with him as number one then who am I to disagree?

Steele would be an idiot to accept our contract, so I'm just assuming he's gone. Get ready for Flicker's reasoning behind that contract. I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash (or the Chron tomorrow).

I know it's 1 year. That's all I need to know to know he'd be an idiot to stay. He's 28 year old, so I don't understand why we're only offering him 12 months. We've offered Cranie and Kennedy 2 year deals. Work it out, lad.

    That to me?

We don't need another keeper. Ben Alnwick should be our number one.

I like Steele and would love him to stay , but i think some on here a being very hard on Alnwick. He did well at start of season, keeping a few clean sheets and looked ok. He made a couple of mistakes but had steele still been injured I think he would have been forgiven.

He must have been under a lot of pressure with the fans on his back wanting Steele back in. Maybe he could relax and play well as the official No.1

    Brighton at home last season.

Don't underestimate the importance of that penalty save.

Last 10 mins of match against one of the best teams in the league and Steele saves.

The confidence and points we got from that game were essential in our post-2012 form.

I could make a long, long list of games where Steele has been outstanding and has won (or saved) us the game.

If you don't rate Steele then you really know fu.ck all about football.

I really, really hope Steele is offered a better contract. The lad deserves it. Otherwise, I'll give Alnwick the chance to prove he's the 'keeper that others say he is.

This age thing doesn't wash with me, we've offered players of a similar age longer deals and a goalies career is often much longer than an outfield player anyway? Some of the best keepers in the world are well over 30.

Steele's been on the whole a quality (at this level) goalkeeper who's performances have warranted a 2 or 3 year deal & not the one on offer. I think he's forced out due to his wages & I'll be sad to see him go.

In my eyes anyone trying to make out Alnwick played well at the start of last season has selective vision or an agenda.

He was clearly highly rated at one point in his career so if he does take over as no. 1 let's hope he can perform well. He'll get my backing even though it's wrong to move Steele on.

Alnwick isn't fit to lace Steele's boots, hence why he's been on the bench all year.
