There are large numbers of deaths every single year so should it be banned? The police excercise their rights to stop me CHOOSING to attend a football match in case I slip on a pavement so shouldn't they also stop people CHOOSING to race around tight roads with no safety barriers?
No, as far as i know there has only been one death this year, the crash today involved a Barnsley lad who came off goin darn Bray hill just after he started ,the bike then carrered off and broke up ,entering the crowd injuring 11 spectators. Motor racing is a dangerous sport
Motor racing is dangerous but that is why practically every other kind of motor racing in the world has to take serious safety precautions before being allowed to happen. 32 people have died during the isle of man TT in the last 10 years and this years even isn't over yet, countless others have been seriously injured. I don't understand why it is allowed to continue when other events are cancelled on safety grounds
No. People choose to take part and people choose to watch, knowing the risks. Otherwise where do you draw the line? Do you ban darts because the scorer might get a dart in his eye, or the player slips and throws the dart into the crowd? Also, having visited the IOM on many occasions, there's not a whole lot of work out there, so they rely heavily on the tourism generated from the TT.
But football events are regularly called off by police on grounds of safety and I bet less than 32 people have died watching football matches in the last ten years.
And we all agree that is all a load of nonsense, calling off a game because of a bit of ice (is it all down to liability issues?). There would barely be a sports event held in Canada or Northern Europe for 6 months of the year if that ridiculous policy were introduced elsewhere.
luckily the IOM have their own government, which chooses individuals to make their own minds up as to whether the race or not, road racing is the purest form of motorsport left, one for the diehards......for anyone interested in it get yourselves to scarborough next weekend for the barry sheene memorial races, the Olivers mount circuit is that last road circuit on the mainland....fantastic viewing,160mph jumps, flat out corners where you can nearly touch the riders.Once you've been you will return.
The last race was today suprtyke and im sure we can all find stats to say why something should or shouldnt be done. If you ask the riders and fans if it should be banned im sure they would say NO. BTW there have been 40,000 plus there this year, fans that is. WATCH IT ON ITV 4,great coverage
9 people have died whilst climbing Mount Everest in less than 3 months, does this mean we should ban people from doing that too? The world in the end is a dangerous place, the riders and the fans at the TT know the risks involved, nobody forces them to take part in it.
Lenzo your right there have been more people killed tryin to climb that hill than in the isle of man TT. So no
I thought you were going to suggest banning it because a player could slip on the ice, it's bloody dangerous! Go Blackhawks!
I had a friend die in the tt about a dozen years ago, I don't think he would want it banning, his family never did. RIP Lee.
They probably need to look into safety for spectators, same with rallying, but the problem often seems to be spectators who stand into the road trying to get photos.
If they ban road racing in one aspect of motor sport then they have to do in them in other branches of the same sport. Those taking part know the risks and are seasoned riders unlike those who say, use the nurbergring ...
