I was hiding in this thread as it had all kicked off over there. I had thought of mischievously making something up about Bobby and Luke agreeing their contract offers and putting it the Star article. But I needn't have worried, it obviously wasn't required! When's Scott & Bailey back on anyway, good programme, especially for ITV.

don't get this holding the BBC as a paragon of all things great and good, they have their fair share of ***** and bias but that seems to get overlooked by the culture vultures.
Most channels have something that's good a lot are just as informative as the good old beeb you just have to be selective.
As for adverts apart from sport we rarely watch anything live just record it and fast forward through the ads.
Personally I think the BBC warrants its arse kicking as once again its caught wasting millions of 'easy come' taxpayers money. That's not to say it should go commercial just run the thing properly

People want the BBC to be run as a commercial element yet then complain about the things that happen in commercial businesses every single day IE waste.

It's a business funded by the public. It operates in the public interest. You're always going to get certain elements of waste and failed projects. But they are definitely outweighed by it's website alone.

Only thing worth watching on ITV recently has been 'Lewis'. And then they knackered it up by splitting the episodes. Amateurs.

    you are aware of this
The BBC has axed a £98.4m IT project after the scheme was found to have "wasted a huge amount of licence fee payers' money".

Director-general Tony Hall has decided to end an attempt to create an internal digital archive which has been in progress since 2008.

He said he had "serious concerns" about how the venture was managed and has ordered a review into its failure.

The BBC's chief technology officer John Linwood, who joined the BBC from Yahoo! in 2009 and earns a salary of £280,000, has been suspended while the probe takes place.

the big difference with the BBC is that they just have yet another review say sorry and with the odd exception people keep their jobs and move on to the next disaster. OK you may be happy with that but I'm fecking not!

I am mate. Mistake, but every business makes them.

I'm sure if they'd have spent £50 million and then pulled it people would still have gone nuts. Rightly so, but that's the difficulty in a public business. £100 million in the grand scheme of the BBC is not particularly massive.

Mistakes happen all the time. I'm sure if you were sacked for every mistake you made you'd be out of jobs pretty quickly. I know I would.

    Suspend the BBC? Haha

Another anti-BBC thread concentrating on the few negatives. I'm not particularly fussed about spending half my time in front of the TV watching adverts.

It's the same with radio. Every time I switch from a BBC radio station to another it's playing adverts.

ITV is absolute toss and always has been. The only classic program it's ever shown was Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. God knows how the beeb let that one slip through their fingers. Their coverage of the Tour de France is pretty good and I also like River Monsters. The rest is tripe.
