    Who'd have thunk it?
It's been reported in The Star so could be a load of ********. They also reckon Steele's a goner. But again, no quotes to back owt up. Just their opinion. I'm sure Neil Goulding reads this forum.

Defender Bobby Hassell could also be on his way out of the club despite being offered a one-year contract to stay.

Next season is loyal Hassell’s decade with the Reds, although The Star understands the player is disillusioned with a lack of first team action.

That could tempt the player to leave in search of regular football in the Championship, with Huddersfield Town – managed by former Reds’ boss Mark Robins – understood to have expressed an interest in signing the 32-year-old.

    Cheers, pal.
I'm still amazed. It was only last night that I read someone on here suggesting Bob could only get a deal at the bottom end of League Two. And the lad that said it knows his stuff.

I can see a certain poster doing a Wenger again on this. Renowned for it.

Would have thought for Hassell to leave, it would have to be a very good offer?

He is entering into testimonial year and has the backing of 99% of the RED army......he will end up with a coaching job at BFC, so should sign up in my opinion.

If Bobby is the type of player they're looking at bringing in and are going to offer a 33 year old Championship wages and will play him regularly then I reckon Huddersfield will be struggling.

I want him to stay through loyalty. Not because he's a better player than what we've got but because of his history with us. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we've got the wage bill to carry someone on Championship wages that won't play week in, week out.

No surprise really, he proved at the back end of last season he's still more than capable of doing a job at this level & Robins also knows what a great person he'll be to hav around the club.

    Fair enough.

I'd be interested if any 33 year old out of contract in the Championship has been offered anything other than a one year deal.

I've no problem with a one year deal. I've no problem if we've asked him to take a bit of a wage cut, but if we've slashed his wages and offered him a pittance it's ridiculous in my opinion. You don't just pay your employees for what they're going to do for your business, you pay them for what they've already done, you reward them for their years of service and their experience. If they can no longer do the job you throw them a party, give 'em a gold watch and wish them all the luck for the future, but if they can do the job, and Bobby clearly can, you pay them appropriately.

Agree entirely. But he's a squad player. If he was going to be playing every week then fine, give him the wages but a one year deal.

I'm not agreeing that he should just be a squad player but you can see the reasoning. Seems Foster accepted something similar last year.

Company policy - one year deal for club servants above the age of 27.

    How old is Kennedy?
Or does that only apply to players that were here before Flicker?

That's why I put club servants.

    Should say 'tenured employees'.

I understand the contract for Kennedy. He took a massive risk helping Flitcroft out and he's rewarding his loyalty. I wish we'd do the same for Hassell & Steele.

If loyalty was a reason for the club to offer a new contract then i just don't get that.

I cant understand any of this contract **** this year, bloody crazy to give Tom Kennedy a 2 year deal, then offer one of the best keepers in the Championship a one year deal ? Crazy.

He's shown he's a dependable person to come in and do a job when others are injured - he could easily get around 25 games next season just covering so not sure if a lack of football would be the problem, he's not realistically going to get that at Huddersfield.

The Huddersfield link is just made-up journalism anyway based on a former link with Robins.

That is your problem entirely mate. You look at it as if it's Football Manager, not real people.

Hassell's been loyal to us for nearly 10 years. About time we showed him some loyalty back.
