I will state this now. This is not an attack or anything on any player. As i've told you before my opinion on it is he's been given a contract and various contracts over the year. A problem could be that the last was so good.
You're possibly right. But counteract that with a bit of security. 'Sorry Bobby, we can't offer you that type of money. What we can is give you x but over two years with an offer to join the staff when you decide to retire'. Done.
Only difference here can be that Kennedy's wages will be lower than Steele's. Maybe the club are looking (and are right in doing so) t total contract value rather than wages per annum? Still believe Steele on a 2 year deal with lower wage would have been the way forward.
I don't but from reading what's been put out from the club over the last 12 month i suspect he and Luke Steele are the higher earners at the club. Not Luke or Bobby's fault but the club should make the make mistake again in offering good contracts or multiple seasons.
Nobody on here knows what any players at Barnsley are/were earning. Players don't know what each other earns, trust me. Not at clubs like Barnsley.
Maybe elsewhere he will get a better length of contract and a wage that will make up his small fee he'd get from a testimonial against someone like Cambridge United on a tuesday night in december to fit it in the schedule. It's wrong we are playing off his undoubted loyalty by lowballing him. With his testimonial he will probably get close to making back what he will lose signing a new contract on vastly reduced wages. But the point of a testimonial isn't so the club in question can use it to their advantage.
I only know one lad in the know, I don't know anyone else in the know. You know. I have a way of finding out that sort of stuff but 1. I don't want to take the urine 2. I don't really care.
You'll learn in time that sometimes people say stuff to the press in order to suit their own agenda. Not saying that's what happens with those 3 gentlemen.
There's always been people claiming to be 'In the know'. However, the internet seems to have produced a plethora of them. Barnsley Football Club must have hundreds of employees for so many contacts to be claimed. Not that any would have their own agenda, or pass on unbiased, one sided, inaccurate information. It simply wouldn't happen.
Problem is we're a football club and not a charity. You offer players what they are worth at the time, not on what they were worth 3 years earlier - irrespective of how long they've been at the club. It's a brand new contract and is like starting from scratch again. We've been stung like that too many times over the years - Sheron, Thomas, Richardson spring to mind as players who were on contracts far greater than their ability deserved. If we offered Bobby a 2 year contract then we'd be bloody stupid, he isn't the player he was 3 years ago and in my opinion will feature very little over the next 2 seasons. It was the players themselves who chucked loyalty out of the window when they listened to Bosman so they can't have it both ways when you get the odd rarity like Hassle. Ryan Giggs has been getting one year contracts for the past 4 years. Hassle should get the same - a one year deal and if performances come up to the mark - another one year deal next season.
While I have no qualms about the length of the contract, I do think the money is the problem, offering a player of Hassell`s standing the same as a first year pro is scandalous.
