Job is still young and has on his day shown great potential and delivered. Schuker had reached his zenith with us, and at a lower standard. If you think he was better than Jim then that tells me a lot about your understanding of football.

No it doesn't, it tells you that your opinion differs to mine.

Jim's got plenty of endeavour and that sort of attitude has won us a few games in the past. He's a bit lacking in skill though and often plays the wrong pass or the wrong cross. He actually did really well when he played wingback. Needs to stop having a go at anyone in the firing line when something goes wrong though. Everyone's had it: linesmen, refs, fellow players, opposition players, coaches, the manager. He'll get himself sent off or thrown out of the club one of these days. A bit more composure in the final third and he could be a real asset. As it stands he's a good player to have in the squad, but not necessarily first name on the team sheet.

O'Brien isnt good enough... he tries hard and that endears him but his passing, crossing and end product let him down

Jims like most of our players inconsistent with good spells and bad spells thats why they are our players.

Yes thanks. I've also watched him over the past few seasons and not been impressed. Just like Shuker, he runs around a lot and tries.

    Agree with that.

Although I do think he's been really unlucky in that he's played 3 seasons and we've only played with true wingers for about 3 months and they were his best time for us.

He certainly not a winger in the purest sense of the position but maybe that's how he's been told to play, I do miss the days of the likes of Devaney whipping a ball into the box from the touchline, we don't seem to get that any more. Only goals I can remember us scoring in the last few years from a ball whipped in has been from either Golbourne or Wiseman.

He wouldn't get in my preferred XI.

He's a decent squad player, though.

As it stands, he'd be understudy to Wiseman at RWB.

Lets just say this.........if Flicka had 11 players that gave as much as Jim O'Brien then by the end of the season we would be closer to the top of the league than the bottom

And.........if we get an out and out old fashioned centre forward.......an Higson type of player.....then people would see how good Jim Jim is at swinging a few crosses in

He works hard does Jim, but no harder than Hassell, Dawson, Etuhu, Perkins, Daggers or O'Grady. In fact, even Wiseman and Mellis became different beasts under Flicker in terms of graft/pressing. Difference being - in my opinion - those I mentioned offer better end product and value for money.

I think considering everything, Jim O'Brien has been a very forgettable player so far since arriving.

3 seasons of injuries, frustration, with a lot of running about and the odd special moment thrown in.

He's still young'ish, and I saw something quite promising when he played the more defensive role at the end of last season. And I am very happy that he's still a red.

But I just feel he's got to improve if he's to be a regular starter next season.

I cant really distinguish between their footballing ability so Chris Shuker was good at being small and his legs seemed to move really quickly. I remember he used to walk around the pitch quite quickly too, which was a good skill. Jim O'Brien brings more facial hair onto the pitch, which cannot be underestimated when the Championship is as tight as it is.

Chris Shuker was superb in League 1 but the effort wasn't always there.

Yes, Jim O'Brien isn't as good as technically but Shuker ****ed us off joining Tranmere

I quite like Jim & am happy to have him at the club. He'll never be one of our best players but when called upon he always gives his all & is a proper team player. If a full back or central midfielder bombs forward & can't get back then Jim clears the danger nearly every time.

He reminds me a bit of Park when he was at Man Utd, the sort that creates space for better players to perform.

With the effort he gives & his love for the club you'd think he was born on Grove Street, wish every player had his attitude.
