Gally/Hicksey, do we know when fans will be surveyed about what choice of alcohol we could have in the Ponty? And is there anymore updates from that forum we held with them? Cheers
Obviously we need a good supply of Champagne in readyness for the coming season.............and I'm not joking !!! (well only a bit)
if its anything like the east stand upper you will get warm carlsberg in a plastic bottle for just short of £4
ah 1 for the treacle lovers eh tbh stopped buying alcohol at oakwell 3yrs ago, the prices went up as the bottles got smaller and the beer got flatter
I only have the one at half time anyway, tbh. So it's never really mattered. I've splashed out on a Preedy's card this year though, so will see what that looks like. I know it's more expensive than town, but I want to put as much cash back into the Club as I can
Warm Fosters/Carlsberg at £4 a pop. Glad I sit int west stand where Bovril is the best option. Man, I'm getting old.
I certainly hope so!?! Not specifically asked, I just naturally assumed it did - or at least a cut. Why would they do it, otherwise? Where's the money going then?
I told the woman who in charge of taking it forward that they ain't gonna sell much Carlsberg in bottles at £3-4 in Barnsley with pubs doing pints for £2 1/2 mile away. She seemed to recognise fans don't want Carlsberg Tetleys brand but let's see if it falls on deaf ears. Carlsberg pints from the proposed 'beer buggy' is a small step
Bottom line is Oakwell cannot compete with town, in terms of bringing people to the ground earlier for a drink. Even fancy world beers at £2 a pint wouldn't encourage me to stand in a grey concrete concourse for an hour. And it wouldn't make money for the Club either, at that kind of price. They have 23+ games a season, to maximise the money they can make. It's the same analogy as ticket prices. People want rock bottom prices, for the odd time they turn up. False economy. The beer buggies are a good idea. Portable, flexible, cheap - actually, people might even pay a premium, for not having to queue. They're a big success at music festivals. Oakwell just cannot compete with pubs in town. If people want a nicer atmosphere to enjoy their pre-match pints, then Preedy's have 150 memberships available at less than a quid a match. It's there already, waiting for you
Cheers Hicksy. It feels like if they are serious about consulting fans it needs to be ASAP as they need couple of weeks at least to get views, discuss responses, then enter possibly into contracts with major drink suppliers, then get it ready (including the alcohol point in Ponty and the token queuing plans). Will soon be 20 July
This stems to realisation at the club they need to get football in on working televisions. Plus highlights of The Reds past and present. Feels like there is positive movement slowly in trying to get fans in earlier.
It'll compete with town if it had a real social club for a pre match drink, what folk won't do is stand around a kiosk in a grey, concrete, depressing building supping can's and plastic bottles. It'll work at half time but l've no intention of leaving the town's bars early to go and stand on a concourse.
Agree Gordon, but we already have one in Preedy's. I really don't understand why people don't recognise it as one. Building anything else, is only sustainable if it gets used outside matchday. Otherwise you're shelling out on a white elephant, which is only open 23+ days a year. It could end up costing a fortune, in real terms.
I'm very positive that Messrs Mansford & Watkins will have a very different perspective, on new initiatives and what is financially viable.
Especially when nearly all the football season is played in cold weather when you'd rather be in a warm pub. Some good beers like Eden or Lancaster Bomber on tap would be decent mind.
