Re: It was addressed to you Absolutely spot on. Either the media have made it up or someone has told someone the offer. I imagine if another player had done that the reaction wouldn't have been against the manager.
Re: It was addressed to you Of course it did, my principles and the clubs. I want the manager to stand by his personal valuation and opinion on his players that he has reaffirmed time and again. The offers to Bobby and Luke were in my opinion, derisory and were in conflict with the managers own statements on their ability and contribution to team and keeping the club in the league. That was my issue and it was shared by a number of supporters. We have been sold this mantra and supported the players he asked us to have faith and belief in. If you present yourself as this highly principled manager/guru, you really have to retain some consistency and conviction, but on this occasion it slipped. It's not the end of the world. I agree that negotiations should be be private, but in the current journo/broadcast/social media I doubt that is possible any longer. If (mis-)information leaks out there will be a response and I think the general support for Bobby and Luke was evident. It is possible that this message was taken on board.
Re: So Nothing to do with impatience, mate. Nor do I recall a hissy fit. I do however admit that I ought to have kept my own counsel with regards to what I knew about the vast drop in wage. And that was my only real issue - I believe the wage cut offered to him was disgraceful. And I was reading folk saying he was on 5, 6, and some even suggested 10 grand a week! He wasn't, and so frustration got the better of me and I piped up. Which I do now wish I hadn't done, but I'm 31 years old in August (the 13th, for those interested ) and still learning. And so I know now to keep certain things to myself. Although to be fair, I could start many a 5 page threads if I was just a know it all gobshite. Trust me, I've kept a lot of things I've found out very much to myself. And even when I have shared certain things, I've done it privately with people who I like/trust. But I've since been told by some that they'd rather not know so as I say, I'm learning all the time. . I thought over the last week that perhaps it would be best for Bob and Luke to move on. But it appears the management/club have listened to us fans and come to a better agreement with Bob and so I applaud them for that and I am happy that he will have the opportunity to continue his reds career in what should be a proud 12 months for he, his family and we the fanbase.
Re: So I just hope they sort Luke out now, so Mr C can kiss and make up with the big mesters at the Club
You should NOT know What was offered, as an individual's personal employment details are private and confidential and as such are protected by law. It is no one else's business, other than the employer and employee. Other than the length of contract, we rightly don't know anything about the contracts of Cywka, Scotland, McNulty or Kennedy and they weren't mentioned on here and Twitter. It should've been exactly the same with Hassell & Steele. There didn't seem many principles on show when their details were being bandied about.
Re: So Come on Whiney...Give us some proof to your knowledge of the contracts our players are on/have been offered.
Re: You should NOT know I agree. The publication of some of the details, in particular the involvement of The Chronicle, was out of order IMO. A bit of a PR **** up, all round, tbh. Apart from Bobby of course, who hasn't said a single word on the matter. But that's just the pro lej that Bobby is.
Great news. So long as whoever else starts the season at right back doesn't get portrayed as the devil incarnate
I think the vast majority of reds and even the most ardent partisan, now expect Bobby to be a squad player. I very much doubt many people expect him to be a first team regular next term. The situation last season was completely different. We became a completely broken unit under Hill, and needed Bobby out on the pitch to help mend that. That's no longer the case. What he offers as a professional and Club captain, shouldn't be underestimated. Every successful Club needs a rock like Bobby
Sorry Andy, but You were the first to be blaming David Flitcroft for the situation. You lost your rag & started mentioning aspects which would've best kept quiet. Neither you nor Paul knew whether what was initially offered by the club would be the start or finish of the negotiations. The club and Bobby have obviously come to a compromise & they should've been allowed to do so, without information coming out in the public domain.
You are right, Kev. Which is why I have agreed that I should have kept my own counsel. But nowhere on this forum did I state his wage, nor how much his pay cut would be. I did however share things privately and perhaps that was wrong, too. And so I'm more than happy to apologise if so, and will as I say, learn from the experience. I do what I do with the best of intentions and perhaps my honesty gets the better of me on occasion, and can be my downfall. But I read and contribute to this forum every day and I have to put up with reading some rather distasteful remarks about people I am close to. But I need to grow a thicker skin, and I intend to. I enjoy learning/improving and that is what I'll do. . Can I however just point out that the salaries of many a BFC player have 'got out' in the past. And it's often acceptable (for some) to make seriously misguided assumptions about footballers on forums such as this. And there are also plenty of folk who would be delighted if I had told them Jennings was here (I knew he was ours the day he was first linked to your favourite West Yorks club ) but I suppose it proves I can keep my gob shut and so I will try to keep schtum more often. . I can't stop being pompous, though. It's sumat I don't know I am doing.
Don't think losing to them was all down to Hassell. Ignoring his attributes is as poor as making him out to be Beckenbauer. He had more than 2 good games last season.
Re: So come on girls & boys. bobby has signed. it's all turned out well in the end. let's just put the last few weeks down to negotiation and devilment in the local press...and celebrate what the vast majority of us wanted
I've never thought of you as pompous Wrong, yes, but never pompous! Sharing things in private is one thing, putting them in the public domain is entirely different, mate. I respect you and am aware you have contacts within the current set up. Also, I never said you have made anyone's earnings public. The fact that earnings may have been made public by others in the past doesn't negate the illegality if anyone was to do it now. I think it's best for all concerned to move on now.
Re: So I have just promised to say no more etc. But I 'reckon' the fact he's settled and loves it here (Barnsley), and has just had another child will have been a big factor in his decision. And right off the bat when I apparently had an hissy fit, I still stated that knowing Bob he'd still sign the deal offered. But, I 'think' the manager/club and he have come to a compromise and I doubt the deal he has now agreed to sign will seem as disgraceful. But as pointed out by Mr. C, I think Bob now has 12 months to perhaps think about his next move, whatever that entails. So if I'm always lambasting Flitcroft may I be the first to thank him for listening, putting things aside, and doing the right thing. It's a myth that I don't like Flitcroft anyway. I don't happen to have an opinion one way or another. But I have thus far enjoyed his tenure as manager and that is the pudding of proof.
Re: I've never thought of you as pompous The squad is now taking shape.Pleased that Bobby as committed him self for another 12 months but I feel his contract dealings have been too public.I would imagine his contract was dealt with like any other player at Oakwell. He was offered x he wanted y and they'll have settled on z.easy in't it.
