if Steele does not sign , then he will be the only one on the retained list who does not re - sign. What will then be the opinion of him from the rank and file on here. Especially when you think about some of Lukes comments in the very recent past.

I'll still be disgusted with the club for offering what is reportedly massively reduced terms on a contract that offers Luke no stability what so ever. Regardless of him being one of the highest earners I very much doubt he's earnt enough money to set himself up for life.

Even if he gets the same terms at a club like doncaster than what we've offered, but on a longer term deal then I think he should take that. He owes it to his family. He's been shown no loyalty by the barnsley mgmt team this summer, so owes us none back.

This would be Flitcroft's first error of judgement if Steele decides to continue his career elsewhere.

Sounds to me like we've offered him a last resort contract. He's exploring other options at bigger clubs, if nothing comes of it the offer stands for us.

What, that I think one of our best players being offered lower terms on an unacceptable lengthed contract is wrong.

You're wrong because it's Luke Steele.

Had it been 1 of Hemsworths bum chum academy prospects he'd be calling for a 15 year contract worth 200k a week

    Your at it again.

From what them who went to that dinner said it seems he's been offered a one year contract BECAUSE the offers that high they can't risk it over two year contract.

Im at what again? And if you say commenting on Steele i'll show you 100 times more posts from you.

Its fairly simple, not unlike yourself. Offer him a longer termed contract with % reduction based on relegation if that happened. Wheres the risk then? That way Steele has a real choice to make and is essentially being incentivised by performances.

I think you've made your point on what you think about Steele signing any type of contract. Let the adults have a conversation for once.

First of all, i've not said i want any player to leave this summer.

Secondly, Answer me one question. He's not signed for anyone even though he's said he would like to leave. So why should the club change the contract to the contract he wants? All these who say he's one of the best in the league or whatever never answer that question and all respect to Doncaster Rovers they aren't a club that a top champ keeper would even entertain.

And there's the rub, Dan..."REPORTEDLY"...The only people who know are Luke, his agent, the board of BFC and Whitey.

I dont believe for one second that Steele is anywhere near the best keeper in this division, I can name at least 6 above him. And Ive never said he was.
However, what I do believe is that he is head and shoulders above Alnwick - And I base my observations on Alnwick's performances last season.
In addition, I dont believe it is possible to replace Luke Steele in the realms of our budget.

You think a top Championship keeper would entertain Barnsley based on our past performances and available funds?
Show me one that is available that wouldn't command a transfer fee.

To finally answer your point about Steele not signing a contract and saying he would like to leave. In terms of his statements, I believe at the start of the year suggested he owed it to himself to look at a higher based team at the end of his BFC deal and that he would like to play in the premiership. The basis of his statement was that he believed (im not sure I do) that lesser Championship keepers had been called up to the england squad and due to him playing for barnsley meant he hadnt.

I'd personally be more worried if he didnt say that and he was happy playing for club finishing 4th bottom year in year out.

    1. Luke wants to leave
    2. Luke doesn't want a 1 year deal, he wants a 2 year deal
    3. Luke wants to play in the Premierleague
    4. Luke is 28 now, he wants a living wage

I think he will sign for us.

Martin Cranie is multi-tasking at the moment. He is trying to run after Dale Jennings in training, whilst working out which one of his contract offers is more financially viable. The offer is obviously not from a club like Leicester otherwise he would have gone by now, its probably from a club like Burnley or summat. A bit of a tricky one for him.

I said I didnt agree woth Steele's comment. Read the threads before you get excited about a reply.
But if you want a comparison of someone of equal standing I'd offer the opinion that I havent seen much of Frank Fielding to suggest he ever deserved a call up.

    Fielding, good Goalkeeper.

Might be off to Bristol but if Barnsley get in there quick he might be a good Goalkeeper for Barnsley.
