Sorry to put a dampener on the evening.

Got the call this morning that we dreaded, that my 90 year old father in law passed away in the States.

To compound matters my passport just expired, couldn't renew earlier due to trips we had, fortunately I didn't send it off at the weekend as I was going to, so got an appointment at Liverpool passport office to expedite a same day renewal.

So, I need to sort out flights to New York or Philadelphia for Friday...anyone know any good sites for cheap flights, used Momondo, Expedia, Last Minute. Best so far is coming in at about £730 return coming back on Tues.

Failing that just 1 flight but I'd rather not have the wife travelling alone as , understandably, she's taking it hard.

I sometimes get cheap deals through Trailfinders also.
Sky scanner is usually the best though but worth a look at the other,
Trailfinders sometimes do exceptionally cheap ones with a stop off somewhere on the way, but you don't have to exit the plane at the destination it stops at.
and condolences to you and the family

Thanks for that Jay. And thanks everyone for your kind words.

I've gone with what I had. Only 4 seats available so unfortunately not got sat together, I'll just turf somebody out!

So sorry Richard. Sincere condolences for you and the Mrs , I see you already booked a flight - hope the passport renewal is hassle free and the visit back to the US goes as well as can be hoped under these circumstances.

    Hi Eastsatnder

Try phoning US Airways direct and tell them its a bereavement and you need to get to Philadelphia asap, Airlines are supposed to have special deals for this exact reason.
its worth a try for nothing

Also so sorry to hear about your father in law. Our thoughts are with you all, hope you manage to get things sorted

We tried it, they offer a 5% discount on their web price, given that is so much more than picking up on a 3rd party site it wasn't worth it, but thanks anyway. Got tickets with United to Newark.

    Sorry to hear your news.

You might want to check out one of the major airlines such as BA - they often have special rates for bereavement. I know that Air Canada, for example offers it so you get a big discount on the published price.

........ I have just googled "airline bereavement ticket" and it gives you a few options on hotwire and also lots mentioned in this link:
