Has anyone else heard of this or do you use it? For example, "I went out last night and had a skinful. I was in a right tacking!"...or "did you watch the boxing last night? Smith was in a right tacking wasn't he?"... I work in Wakefield - no one at my place has ever heard of the expression. I use it all the time!
Common usage in my limited vocabulary. Must always be proceeded with 'reight' though. No one is ever in a tacking. They're always in a reight tacking.
Bingo! I thought I was going nuts for a minute when about four people all at once thought I was saying 'attacking'... "No - a tacking". "Nope, never heard of it - must be a Barnsley thing..."
Probably only when laiking a computer game. A Laiker was also a day off work just cos you wanted one and couldn't be ar$ed to go
One from my childhood .... ahh ....fannied thi.... An expression to tease someone when you have tricked them, e.g. With a practical Joke, or made them look stupid. Nice turn of phrase... Think I last heard it in about 1987.
Re: One from my childhood Heard it last weekend and will probably hear it this weekend. Great phrase!
