Lucky enough to see them twice at Reading Festival. Biggest regret of my gigging years was missing their first concert in Sheffield (November 1989). 3nd support act to Mudhoney and Tad at the Hallamshire. One of my uni mates had a ticket but forgot all about it and I couldn't get the night off work
Lucky enough to see them both. The Jam on the All Mod Cons tour at Sheff Uni and the Clash Give em enough rope tour at the Top Rank. Both bands in their prime before they jumped on the top 20 bandwagon. Shame when we lost Joe Strummer, the Mascelaro's were world class, so that would be my choice of bands that I was never lucky enough to see. I got Journey out of the way last Deccember in Vegas was waiting 30 years for that one!
Zeppelin one more time And status quo (the John coglan, Alan Lancaster, frantic four version) gutted I missed them this year 2014 looks promising for both, so fingers crossed
No one that could reform, I'm not interested in that, but give me a time machine and I'd like to go back to the 60s to see The Velvet Underground. I had a chance to see them in the 90s, but who wants to see a bunch of old gets going through the motions just trying to make some money? Seeing The Clash in their heyday would have been special too, but as everyone used to gob over everything at the time, I've got a feeling being born so late is actually a godsend.
' but who wants to see a bunch of old gets going through the motions just trying to make some money?' Definitely don't turn Glastonbury on then Jay. I agree. There are loads of bands I could see or have seen in big arenas because its the only way to see them who I would love to see in a small venue too. REM at Sheffield Arena was so disappointing.
Nirvana if we could resurrect Kurt. Of the possible ones out there, REM. I would have said blink-182 from 2004 to 2009 but thankfully they reunited and my life became much fuller once more. New album next year. Hopefully followed by my umpteenth opportunity to watch them.
Was lucky enough to see rem live mate, bloody brilliant. For me probably queen or nirvana or Michael Jackson at his peak.
I had the chance to see REM in Sheffield a while ago now, but couldn't make it. Regret that now. And I agree on Queen (loved Freddie) and Jacko so far as dead artists go. Showmen, and I bet they were special live. It's amazing seeing them live on dvd/video etc but nothing compares to being there in the flesh. I can still remember first seeing The Levellers at city hall as a young lad and I can remember the set list and so many moments of that night some 17 years later. The amount of times I've seen blink has probably spoilt it somewhat. Which is why I'd love to see them at a small venue, or in Vegas or summat. Something fresh. Unfortunately, I don't earn Vegas money.
Nirvana? I did @ Sheffield Octogon. decent enough band. Grohl - awesome blur of hair and sticks. Novoselic - Tall gangly awkward looking dude who plays a bass like a percussive instrument, jumps around a lot. Cobain - average guitarist, great vocal delivery for a grunge band, angry miserable ****. There you go. P.S Shonen Knife were class.
Honestly they were shocking live, Strummer struggled to play and sing at the same time. But it was still a glorious noise + it was punk so you just got pissed and smashed the place up anyway.
Saw REM four times, but would give anything to see them once more. Best live band I've ever seen, and seemed to get better with age. Is that being greedy?
