    I read that for the BBS to be truly stable it needs a more expensive server so how about having a few unobstructive ads on the forums but with the option of paying a small fee (a tenner?) to have them removed? I'd happily pay for it and then the readers who aren't actually members would see the ads.

    Good idea , but they could just download adblocker for free and not see any ads at all

    I used to run a forum through the Invisionfree board and sponsorship was massive to keeping the board afloat, adds may well be annoying but they work.
