The owner might be able to afford it, but the club is a different matter, it's still debt. Owner funding has a cap that will continue to come down over the next few years under FFP.

The model of a wealthy owner funding a team from his own pocket in hope of success doesn't have much longevity any more. There are many examples of failure amidst the handful of successes

It's money they've got and they get decent crowds.

I seem to recall the owner making comments around the time he parted company with Grayson saying they had to cut their cloth better... doesn't look like he's heeding his own words

    Do they have it?

I bet there's not much of the Jordan Rhodes money left.

Turnover up in the last 4 consecutive seasons up to 11/12, commercial revenue up 34%. Bigger turnover than us when they were in league 1. Not seen anything for their accounts for 12/13 which will include the £8 million Rhodes figure, championship revenue and championship wages.

The reason being he was paying championship wages in League 1, chasing promotion, which they got. Off the field all revenue was up a third. Be interesting when their 12/13 accounts come out.

I agree they have really improved their commercial side and I hope we follow suit with the new people we now have involved.

They did spend a lot of money last year (Scannell, Clayton, Norwood, Southern, Gerrard all cost fees and they outbid competitors in their pursuit which logically would mean they paid a bit over the odds on wages... they also got loans in of Danns, Hammill, Beckford and Vaughan who I suspect weren't cheap), and yes income will have gone up through sky and i'd expect more commercial revenues but they splashed money about.

But anyway... just my opinion that they are stretching themselves a bit more than necessary

They got 8 mil for Jordan Rhodes, that's where the majority of the money has come from.

And heard that Hammill was quality for them too.

It's not uncommon for transfer fees to be paid over as long a period as 4 years though.
