I don't understand the support he gets from the English. Its like a Wednesday fan wanting Sheff U to win.
Not really comparable. We operate as Great Britain at the Olympics... no-one had a problem shouting for Chris Hoy. .... And as for football, after England, i would always root for the other home nations. I find it odd that people would support other nations than our own. Then again, my Dad was Scottish, my Mum was English, and we have Irish descendants.
I disagree. However, I hope the LTA aren't basking in the sunshine of his glory, as they deserve little or no credit for his success. Were it not for hiom joining the Spanish system in Barcelona to get the coaching and education required, things would most likely have been very different for the lad.
As someone who goes to Glasgow a lot I would never support them. Bitter people who still speak of us invading them. Try going and not been called an English lovely person at least once a day. My national team is England, not Britain.
Must just be you. I spend every day of my life in Glasgow and nobody ever mentions England invading Scotland. Nor do I get called an English lovely person once a day.
I was called an English lovely person because when a tramp or whatever it was asked for some change to buy a drink I said "no sorry, I don't have any change". The reply was "English lovely person". Lovely
So you took that experience and tarred the whole of Glasgow and Scotland with the same brush to the extent you don't support Andy Murray?
No it isn't. He is representing Great Britain, it doesn't say SCOT at the side of his name in the Wimbledon draw, it says GB (or GBR).
Well on that basis I couldn't root for Djokovic as on the one occasion I went to Serbia I was called an English sh*t!
I really miss my 'Like' button, so many comments in this thread that I would have used it with! BTW RED, I don't understand why you are complaining at a guy speaking the truth!
I'm with you Fired. I know the anti-English feeling can be strong with the Welsh and Scots, and I have experienced it, but I've never felt the same way. I will always put the English player / team first, but if it is other UK players / teams against foreign players / teams, I know who I'm barracking for.
