Bit of a strange one....... I'm trying to find out where one of former players is buried. It's George Utley, the only BFC player to represent England whilst with the club. It's for a project I've got in mind. Anyone into family tree researching etc. I've found out he passed away in Blackpool but was an Elsecar lad. Hit a brick wall and most of the research sites require subscriptions to delve further. Any help appreciated. UTR
As he's an Utley (I've got 2 t's ) I'll have a look in the graveyard at the church down here in sunny Elsecar and see if I can find owt. (If you here nothing back it's cos I've been arrested )
dont know how far you researched or used google but heres what i can find and it probably narrows it down a bit more for you, Utley died in Fleetwood the age and year of death all tie in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Utley http://www.ukbmdcertificateordering...||FE:FLW/16B/82|U|1606|lancashire|PN|78&lang= you have to pay for a copy of the certificate but at least it says he died in fleetwood, if i can delve any deeper then ill post up again for you
are you a Necromancer if so could you... resurrect us a couple of unbeatable centre backs and a couple of 20+ goals a season strikers.... please. I will let you bite me if needed.
Thanks for the replies. On behalf of Dysons new West Stand Bogs fanzine I'm researching him. I think it's apt that it'd be appropriate (like with Preedy) that we can pay a 'tribute'. I've got mi dads mate who I couldn't locate for ages on the mission. He's retired and subscribes to loafs of family tree type sites. I'm looking forward to finding his resting place and paying the appropriate tribute. Any other help is still received with much gratitude UTR
The most obvious route is going back through the family and finding a link for him eg brother sister and following that lead as he didn't have any kids. However, evidence does suggest his second wife came from a family of financial means so will be fairly easy to track down. The house keepers as well would have families and will more than likely live on the same estate.
Cheers . I've gone down that route. Without subscribing it's a block off! Mi dads mate who I've spoken to tonite is on the job. He's done my family tree back to the 1700's so I'm confident now he's on board I'll be laying some red n white flowers very soon! Complete with pics and some appropriate words!!!!
Yes but as I'm a lasy bar steward he could be buried anywhere?!?!? Now mi dads mate is on board we could know time of death. I've loved compiling his history. True character! From tarn n played for England!!! Watch this space.........
Barnsleys biggest fan is a Utley I know she is a distant relative so will ask her if she knows where he is buried and get back to you
I've never been asked this one before so I haven't a clue. The people at Sheffield United Museum should know for certain as they are still in touch with the family. They presented the Lane with his memorabilia as it was George's dieing wish that nothing should come to Oakwell. It always puzzled me as to why he should take this stance but I read that sometime in the 60's (I'm still trying to find out when poss 62) the club put on a display of his things and everything was stolen. Eventually his Cup Final shirt was recovered from a pub in Hoyland but certain items are still out there. I've contacted the people at Bramall Lane on your behalf.
Cheers for that Dave! Any help is appreciated. I can remember you telling me something similar at your book launch.
I'm not sure it's an arrestable offence although it would depend on what you have planned?!? Cheers though!
Not sure if you'd got this far yet but here's his death from the national records. His death was recorded in Fylde.
Cheers ST. Since speaking to the blowk who does this sort of thing as a hobby last night I'm waiting on him coming back to me. So hopefully all will be revealed
My friends in Sheffield have it recorded that he was cremated in Blackpool but they have no details as to what became of his ashes
