Not seen much of him since he left us but all I can think of was that he was part of an especially leaky Bristol City team who were relegated with several games of the season left.

People can say "trust Flicker" all they want but when you've lost five games on the bounce because of defensive errors that doesn't really stack up.

I'd hope we could attract someone from higher up the league, no particular names spring to mind but there are plenty of talented players who maybe aren't getting as much game time as they would prefer at clubs like Leicester, Forest, Derby etc because of the large squads they have.

Someone like Sean St. Ledger fits the bill for me, someone who has the talent but has lost his way a bit over the last couple of years, get him back to playing consistently well and flog him on for a decent profit which would be good for both parties. Trouble with him and several others like him is he's no doubt on a fair whack with a year or two left on his contract and we'd barely be able to offer him half the money he earns now.

You could have said the same about St Ledger being part of a leaky Preston side that went darn to League 1 Jed.

Doesn't that description pretty much apply to Nyatanga?

Never been impressed with St Ledger and his wages would be astronomical in terms of what we'd be willing to pay.

They are pretty similar yeah, and I would assume only one of them is affordable. St Ledger is decent, it was a long time ago when he got relegated with Preston but I would guess he definitely earns more than he should in relation to his ability/achievements.

I've seen enough Football over the years and sport in general to know that the margins between success and failure can be very slight. At the top level in sport it's often all in the head. None of the top players in any sport and that includes professional football, lack ability. Yes some players have more talent than others but often it's attitude and mental strength that makes the difference. These attributes are to the fore at Flitcroft's Barnsley. Whatever you may think of Nyatanga from either his time here previously or his time at Bristol, he's still a potentially good player. He wouldn't be the same under Flitcroft, he'd be the new improved version. I trust Flitcroft to get the best from what we have.

    Agree with Richietyke.

He was part of a defence, not all of it. He was also coached by people who also have to take a good deal of the blame for their demise. Everyone on here has seen what happens to players confidence when playing poorly, and how they suddenly look much better under a different manager and coaching staff.

Not to say Nyatanga will be a world beater, but im sure under Flitcroft he will find some good form. Nobody would have given Kennedy a kick last season, but he didnt turn out too bad when brought in from the edges of the first team.

A good signing in my view.
