Lads Considering the situation at Coventry (club renting their home ground) what's the Trust's stated goals? Fan representation/ownership? Stadium and club brought back as one? How do we stop what's happened at Coventry happening to us one day?
Not the case mate. The current measures were put in place to protect the club against exactly that and the debacle that had happened previously under Doyle. It does need demystifying though.
We're fine mate no way anything like this could happen to us- but as Mr C says some clarity wouldn't go amiss. I don't know enough to merit any words on here though. Gally probably knows more than me. **** what's happening with Coventry. Great club who are being shafted big time by tw@ts
Does anyone know, definitively, what the situation is with Oakwell? I've heard a few stories, joint Cryne/BMBC ownership, one having land ownership the other owning the stadium...I have no idea. Complicates it a bit when Rowing said a while back that they were going to redevelop the West Stand, that was about 2009 and as far as I know the ownership status was the same as now - would that have been like putting an extension on a house you rent off the council? I think as long as it isn't a private company with it's own agenda who owns the land/stadium then I can't see why it is anything we should worry about. I bet there are some property developers who would love to get their hands on that land though - walking distance to the train station where you can get to Sheffield in 12 minutes and the centre of Leeds in 35 minutes. You would struggle to get to Leeds city centre from most parts of Leeds itself in 35 minutes, particularly in rush hour, and then you'd have to pay a fortune to park.
A few clubs have fallen foul of the 'Field of Dreams' if you build it they will come philosophy...in many cases the only way to 'build it' is with the help of outside investors who are only in it to make money, they don't really care about the success/failure of the club. That's Coventry, Darlington forced to move. It didn't do much for Leicester and Southampton initially but they've turned it around.
But what from? Extinction? The debts were relatively modest and administration then was simply that. Doyle mortgaged the club in order to buy it, a ridiculous idea that caused an absolute mess that we have only just put behind us. The most dangerous point by far was during the Doyle tenure when the club was effectively owned by firm of solicitors from Chesterfield. That's as I understand it anyway.
Sorry missed this before... It's the general aim in the constitution of a Supporters Trust to own part or all of the club and and/or to get fan representation on the board. We have to be realistic though, we would need serious financial backing to be able to achieve this and I don't think this is really something we currently take seriously especially given the current situation with the club and ground ownership. As has been mentioned the idea behind splitting the club from the assets and with the council owning a 50% was is to ensure the future of the football club from speculative owners coming in that are more interested in the assets. We all know that the club is owned by someone who only has its best interests in mind! We do need to be in a position to act on this if the ownership structure were to change though so a Supporters Trust with a strong membership is a good situation to be in. Some of our aims and objectives off the top of my head: Represent fan issues to the football club Work with the club to improve match day experience Encourage juniors to come along to football matches and become part of the club. We work closely with the football club to discuss issues relating to ticketing priority for big games where demand may be high Work at all levels to improve the experiences of football fans, from a local level through to national issues through our membership of the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) and Supporters Direct. Provide fans forums and access to the clubs staff/players/past players (although the club seem to have decided to do this now without any consultation. See here. Would have been nice to have been asked/told!) Social Events for Barnsley Fans To strengthen links between the Trust, the football club and the community. Fund Raising for fan based projects Quite how much of this "working with the club" and fan representation type activities will continue is rather up in the air at the moment since we don't seem to be able to make contact with Ben Mansford via any channels at the moment which is a shame given his initial interview where he stated that he would be engaging with The Supporter's Trust. It's particularly frustrating given some of the work done recently by The Trust at the request of Don in the areas of match day and particularly family experience as well as the work we had put in with Lindley's to try and improve concourse catering.
Surprised at that from Ben. When I spoke with him down at the Club the other weekend, he said he was very keen to work directly with The Supporters Trust. Then again, he did say 'as soon as possible'. I'm sure he has his hands full at the mo, and will turn his attention soon. The 'evening with' on the 22nd might be a good opportunity to pin him down to some level of commitment to a meeting
To be fair gally, I'd much prefer him to be concentrating on getting us a decent striker at this moment in time... Much better way of getting the fans buying season tickets, than simply smoozing the supporters trust. Plenty of time for that later.
I'm sure he'll soon get a grasp of the good work you guys do on behalf of the fans and the club, and hopefully work with you even more than don did to improve things.
Peter Doyle cleared debts with his own money and business men's money ,nip in worsborough common club and ask him.Pete owns it and can be seen serving a good pint most days .
