AARON Mclean has been the subject of interest from Championship clubs Barnsley and Blackpool as he bids to find a fresh start away from Hull City. The out-of-favour striker has been told he can leave the KC Stadium this summer and has been left behind from the Tigers' current training camp in Portugal. National reports have linked Mclean with a move to tonight's friendly opponents Sheffield Wednesday, but manager Steve Bruce has revealed only Barnsley and Blackpool have so far made an approach. Now in the final year of his City deal, Mclean will be allowed to leave for a nominal fee and so will Cameron Stewart, who himself has been linked with Blackpool, Ipswich and Charlton. On Sheffield Wednesday's interest in Mclean, Bruce said: "I haven't heard anything personally from Dave Jones, but there's been interest from Barnsley and Blackpool for Aaron. If we get the right offer, he can go. "Cameron is in the same boat. They both want to play regular football and they need to find new homes. We've had one or two little enquiries for Cameron but nothing concrete so far."
"If we get the right offer he can go"?!?!?! What, like new PL big boys need a 'nominal fee'? Free transfer, surely???
He'd be a good signing if we can pull it off. Surely we can make the cash available for this one transfer if this is to be the only other one we're going to make.
For me this would be a good signing providing we can get his confidence back which I'm sure flicker could do. Would definatley like to see him in a reds shirt. Wonder how much they would want?
He's definitely "plug and play" but looking purely at the numbers he doesn't seem to have a great scoring record at Hull. Would be happy with this though, at the end of the day we aren't going to be able to beat off competition for someone who has been in red hot form.
Just because they are in the premiership doesn't mean they have to let people leave for nothing. Course they should want a fee and any club wanting him should expect to pay one.
Makes sense Flicker made a comment about O Grady and Dagnall doing what Mackail-Smith and McClean did at Peterboro, so he's obviously one he knows about, hasn't worked for him at Hull but fabulous scoring record at Peterboro and if we can do a deal I think he'd compliment what we've already got. Hope Mansford can get it done.
Re: Makes sense In flickers plug n play interview he also mentions one or two other things....wage structure being one..that may be reason he's still at Hull and not here or Blackpool...would be a good signing I agree..but I feel wages would be the stumbling block...
Re: If we can afford him Don't be silly, he's worse than Charlie Adam and JOB in one while wearing Fola Onibuje's shooting boots
Re: If we can afford him I get the feeling we made an enquired about him and dropped our interest after flicker spoke with Bruce. Hull fans on their forum saying it'll be hard to offload him as he's pulling in 15k a week? Looks like the only way we would have a chance is if hull got no firm offers and just decided to buy his contract out.
Re: If we can afford him Morning, mate. I said I'D be happy. Actually, I was hoping we'd sign the likes of Broadfoot, McManus or McDonald just to pee you off and get you on one of your rants!
Re: If we can afford him Me? Rant? It's only because I care so much I was actually hoping we'd sign Broadfoot and he'd prove me wrong(for once). Hope you've still got plenty of sunshine to enjoy this weekend, Glasgow is still scorching and half naked, not sure if that's a good thing or not!
I'm fully naked Although I'll put on a few items of clothing before barnsley66 picks me up for the match later. I think we'll end up signing an experienced striker and another defender before the transfer window closes.
Re: If we can afford him Yeah thats kinda what I think...Hull after getting rid, us after a recognised striker...why int he here..?
