Ump says not out, hotspot shows nothing, ump reverses original decision. So much for technology being used, to get it right and avoid the howlers. Once more, showing the human interface is the problem with using technology.

Third umpire says he heard a deflection.

Agree. Think the issue lies with the people using the technology not being upto scratch no the technology being an issue.

So how can you make decisions based upon it?

Snicko isn't part of the package used for DRS.

No, the issue still is you have a human having to make a decision. Human beings get it wrong. Yes, some are better than others, but all that's happened is that the responsibility has been shifted down the line and mistakes will continue to be made Just scrap it.

What? Your giving the person "down the line" far more knowledge due to repeated viewing and technology, they will make mistakes, however they are far more informed. If they make incompetent decisions the system shouldnt be scrapped.

Why are people even talking about this decision.

If your English or Welsh surely you should just be thinking. get in, another Win.

    I'll tell you why

Because DRS in the main helps makes better, more informed decisions than we've been used to previously - all be it a couple of inexcusable howlers in the last two tests.

If the third umpire keeps making poor decisions the Aussies (like the Indians) will vote DRS out of the next Ashes tour. I personally don't want that to happen, so I wish the idiot making the decisions would start getting the obvious ones correct - whether that's for us or against us.

We also don't need the help of the third umpire to beat this rabble. Lets get 20 wickets a test that are nailed on, not dubious.

    Re: I'll tell you why

It was given Not Out. England referred. There was nothing on hotspot but the third umpire said he heard the edge in real-time and saw the deflection. Eyebrows were raised but later Snicko proved it to be the correct decision.

    Where's the issue?

agree. a part of me wonders if this is actually a subversive plot by the establishment, to rid the game of DRS by player request, thus restoring the natural order of things. that would be very clever indeed.
