financial fair play, it will affect teams. Leicester City are one of them teams that will be most affected. 100% wages to income, can't go over that.
Very few Championship clubs spending money (transfer fees): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...20670/Championship-Summer-Transfers-2013.html Birmingham - received £7.5m in transfer fees. Replaced them with free transfers/loans Leicester - 6 players out, 1 free transfer in (It wasn't so long ago when they were paying £6m for players)
It wouldn't surprise me. A lot of teams seem to have gambled (Birmingham, Leicester etc) but find themselves still in the Championship with no parachute payments anymore to write off the losses. Now they have to cut their cloth accordingly. We just need to stay up and break even/not get into debt, and over the next few seasons we should naturally find ourselves in a stronger position in terms of recruitment/competitiveness, especially with the enforcement of the financial fair play rules.
Certainly some interesting ins and outs throughout the division. Most defiantly a lot more levelling when you consider the expenditure of the vast majority! Team spirit is key.
If this properly works then were going to benefit from it massively. The big spenders will soon be up shi.t creek when all their best players are leaving cause of wage cuts. I think a few managers will get found out (I'm looking at you Pearson)
"Michael Coulson opened the scoring for York in the 55th minute from 20 yards out" Taking time out from cruciate ligament injuries to score goals, good lad.
Leicester haven't had any parachute payments for years, maybe ten or so, but I agree they could well be in a bit of a hole sooner or later. Birmingham would be my next candidates for admin, but the ones I'd be really worried for if they don't go back up next season are Bolton. The size of their debt means if admin does happen they will be looking at complete financial meltdown (which I'd actually be pretty pleased about)
Although it will make the championship more level, the gulf between the PL and the FL will just increase. Think they'll end up getting their super league or whatever with no promotions or relegations. The only incentive to get to the premier league soon will be to cash in, in the 12 months you'll inevitably get. Doesn't bother me, this is the real league for real fans.
Did they even have the parachute payment system when Leicester were relegated? Thought it was something which started around 2005? I could be wrong mind.
No mate. We got them for two seasons, around 3 or 4 million in total I think. They only started getting really astronomical around ten years ago I think but I'd have to check. The new system of getting them for four seasons is absolutely ludicrous, especially as the payments for promoted teams are no longer shared among the rest of the league. Theft.
Trouble is Worsbrough, players who leave because of a wage cut will have nowhere to go. Nobody is willing to pay. We will soon be in a position with players bidding themselves down just to get a team.
They've just paid Wellens off and he was rumoured (strongly) to be on £30k a week! An average midfielder earning £1.56m a year basic.... pretty shocking really. They've been desperate to offload players from the Sven years who were given huge salaries, way above market rate, and on very lengthy terms. I can't say I like Pearson especially but in relation to his predecessors he's certainly had his hands tied more. Nice to see some common sense is coming into play!
