Saw his latest Player interview last night. 16 minutes long. Talked 90% sense. 10% ********. I loved it. "regain regain regains, pass pass pass.. I'm obsessed by it" Yes, Keith, we noticed.
He has a philosophy and sticks to it religiously. He knows what he is talking about on his philosophy. Whether it can be successful is another matter, it didn't work with us. Can't see him managing near the top tbh. Flicker on the other hand...
Flicker was Keith's bitch 7 months ago. Now Keith is managing a team 2 divisions below, and saying things like "too much time in possession and it was negative possession, important that we play through the units quicker" and adopting wingback formations (Matty Done played LWB in the friendly against Macclesfield) I hope Flicker is charging him for this tuition! "pressing game, passing game, regain retain game"
"Anybody, including a blind person tonight, could see what we are trying to do on a football pitch" I do still miss his interviews from time to time, even if I certainly don't miss the results.
"I don't think I've ever been rewarded for doing anything wrong" So Keith, how much compensation did we pay you for doing a terrible job as manager?
Do we have to do this again? He wasn't a success, nor was he terrible. Have a look at those players out on the pitch, all have performed under both Hill and Flitcroft ( no matter who you think is the main mover in the duo, Hill knows a player). Probably the best move for all concerned when he was sacked, but not a terrible manager. Done played as a proper LB today in a back four. Hill is trying to get the players used to a lot of different styles and formations, with a few of them being multi functional - something Flicker did well last season, so yes there may well be some tips being taken on board.
442: Hill had a good patch with us but for a long period he was absolutely awful, the stats prove it, the majority of fans said it and the players were playing like they knew they were doomed under him. It was a terrible twelve months and if you read my posts I supported him up until the Forest game at home a month or so before he was sacked.
Of course he was terrible, just look at our results for the entire calender year. Look at the comments from the players themselves after he went about the change since Flitcroft took over. Etuhu for example said that Hill had created a divide in the squad and Flitcroft created a team. The fact is that Hill says he has never been rewarded for failing yet as a sacked football manager he must have been handed compensation for failing. Identical to a parachute payment in my eyes.
He was employed to build the entire house but only managed to lay a few foundations before knocking up what can only be described as a monstrosity of a building that didn't pass any safety regulations so had to be sacked and we had to get a new builder in who's first job was to rip down the shell and start again building a pretty nice looking building.
Apart from the formation, team spirit, the giving players a chance and the relationship with the fans. Apart from all those things it is exactly what Keith 'I had to work Wednesday' Hill fought for.
