I feel we won't be bum raped with these two new blokes on the board, pity they weren't there for some previous transfer dealings we've had. Longer contracts for promising youngsters and important 1st team players.

    Breath of fresh air.

To be fair, Stones signed a 4 year contract last year. A contract no longer means you can hang on to your players, but it does mean you can get some money for them, like we did with Stones.

Excellent news. Possibly a bigger prospect than Stones was/is.

I guess that's the 'exciting news' Mansford mentioned on Sunday. Hopefully he'll not be injured for most of the 4 years :)

    Re: Narthen

And like we didnt with Butterfield - who I am sure would have signed a longer contract if we had offered him one at the right time - to be fair to our young players like Stones and hopefully Digby - if they are good enough to get premier league clubs wanting to sign them and they want to go I dont have a problem with that at all - as long as we get fair compensation - I think we did with Stones - it was the Butterfield, Vas Te, Hammill, McIndo transfers that I was less happy with

Great news. Least it means when he's sold in the next 12 months we will/should get a decent fee for him :)

    Asset.

The contract extension doesn't add loyalty, but will definitely add potential value. That is one thing that needed changing, and the new set up certainly seem to have got the grasp of it: Jennings (3 year contract), Digby (4 years) Steele/Cranie (2 years)

Compare it to Vaz Te and Butterfield. We got mugged because their contracts had run down to 6 months and 0 months respectively, at a time when they were playing well and attracting interest from Premier League clubs (with a lot of money). Talented players hitting form with '50% off' tags attached to them.

Hopefully Jennings and Digby really impress, and if a Premier League club shows interest, it will probably be at a time when both players have at least 2 years left on their contract. We can then start negotiating and looking at a price that reflects the true value of the player/or a rice that is mutually beneficial for both clubs.

Is it a surprise? no, not really. Watkins was a Director at Man Utd for 28 years, try and teach him about business, combine this with Mansford's expertise in player contracts/recruitment, we are wired up right.
