Best I've been in was Walsall. Last game of the play-off season in League One. Massive social club attached to ground. Away fan friendly, families welcome, decent ale, tv screens and did food. Not rocket-science....
People were wanting a supporters bar, they were given a shared community/youth club, and like mentioned above the interior doesn't look anything like a bar. I doubt we'd be looking at anything near £500k, there's an unused level in the East Stand below the executive level that could be used. It needs a floor and the interior building. Although this would only be used 23 days a year plus cup matches/friendlies, l'm sure they could put it to use for other events too, supporters club meetings etc. I drive past this every day going to work, exactly what we wanted and who on earth would want to go for a drink in Beeston on a non-match day? Miles out of the city centre, in one of the roughest part of Leeds, l'm surprised they open it on non-match days. Donny Rovers also have a bar that's only open during games as do many other clubs who stadiums are out of town in the middle of near, so there must be a big enough market on match day for it to be worthwhile opening one. http://www.leedsunited.com/page/BillysBar/0,,10273,00.html
As I remeber it... ... the problem is the place has dual usage. Being a Social Club is only one of its functions. It was designed so it can be used for events with children and youths under the legal drinking age. That is why the pumps are not permanent, as alcohol cannot be seen to be available when such events are on. I've been in a few times and I agree, its only advantage is that it is at the ground. If the club intend to have a Social Club for match days and want to use Preedys, they should decide that it should only be a social club, and develop it as such.
Walsall = Best away ground setup out of all 92 league clubs. (obviously excludes local areas / Towns etc .... Just talking about at the ground!)
I think something could be done with the of school across road , probably a family sized supporters bar with other football /community projects
Probably cost too much for the club to buy - it'll be knocked down for housing just like so many of our historical school buildings
