Pretty sure there are plenty of Football clubs too ! It is the same principle as the Company Shop at Tankersley, I have never heard you complain that some people can get their shopping cheaper than others just because they work for different companies ?
Well. It's all the same with these public service jobs. Loads of perks, fantastic pensions. What does one expect?
Suppose the point I was trying to make is that the council seem to be trying to offer other incentives to staff which don't cost the council anything to try and make up for the fact that salaries have been frozen for so long and I suppose a few of the schemes they've set up do allow people to make their money go further. Not that I've personally benefited from any of these schemes and I won't from this BFC one either being a season ticket holder.
Indeed there are. How many clubs are there called Barnsley football club playing at Oakwell? Just the one last time I checked.
So let's get this right - supporting your football club is the same choice as which gym you go to or where you do your weekly shop? I thought there was supposed to be a bit more of an emotional attachment to it than that. Obviously not.
Yes. In the sense that BFC is a business attempting to attract customers and spend from all areas of the community. And if the whole town shared the emotional attachment to the club of the core support, then we wouldn't be struggling to make ends meet on gates of 9-10k.
Hope you're being sarcastic mate! 20 years ago that might have been the case but now there is very little job security, most people are on a modest salary which hasn't gone up in a long time, yes BMBC pays into your pension but lots of private employers do that these days as well, the only perk at the council is flexible working but even that has become less flexible than it used to be. Every department now seems to have their very own Keith Hill and Don Rowing telling us that we can't afford to deliver services how we used to.
Sorry but i'm with Conan on this, doesn't affect me as i will be there, but i think it's appalling a small minority get the discount, because of where they work.
So that's it. We've closed entry to the club now. If you weren't at Bury in 1999 when the first shouts of Hendrie out started you not allowed to start going to games. Game over. The ship has sailed. We're too over run with fans.
has anyone actually stopped to ask what this actually is? As far as I can see an employer (bmbc) is offering it's staff a work place incentive?? Good f'king luck to them all I hope every one of them buys a ticket at whatever price they can get it.
With all due respect I think you and Conan are missing the point, it's not about giving council staff a discount, it's about finding a large enough group of people to target and BMBC is perfect in that respect. I'm sure this won't always be a council exclusive deal, for all we know people at the club could have been on the phone to larger businesses all over the town...although knowing some (smaller) business owners myself they would want something out of the deal personally before passing it on to their staff, I imagine that mentality carries on into larger companies.
