I know this is old news and it is disgusting what they did but can I just raise the same point that I seem to always raise when things like this happen.

They met her at between quarter past 12 and half 12 at night. That's a 12 year old girl out after midnight. Is it normal for 12 year olds to be out pissed out of their tree after midnight these days?

I wasn't suggesting anything at all to do with the girl herself. I was questioning the parenting.

I was also questioning if in fact it is considered normal now to be out so late so young. Lots of things seem to be the norm now that wouldn't have even been considered 5 or 10 years ago.

She may not be with her parents

For whatever reason. Nothing can be used as an excuse for what the child went through.

Re: I think his point is..

Why would anyone take offence at me questioning why someone so young was allowed out (presumably on her own) after midnight? The attack is awful, it is no fault of the girl who is purely and simply a victim of an horrible crime but **** me, letting kids out after midnight? I don't think anyone would be offended by the suggestion that that is crazy

I don't think for one minute he's suggesting she asked for it. But when I read that story one of my immediate thoughts after thinking how disgusting it was what had happened to her was what the hell was she doing out at that time.

Parents must take some of the blame for it as if they had been more responsible it wouldn't have happened. Obviously 19 year old lads shouldn't be going round raping girls of 12 but its a sad fact that it happens and that 12 year old girl should not have been put at risk.

no way will my daughter be allowed to hang round the streets at after midnight at just 12 years old

Where has it been stated that the 12 year old was 'pissed out of her tree' ?

To be honest when I read your question I assumed it was to andytyke then I was confused when he never mentioned pissed out of her tree. I read all the other posts in the thread and was genuinely surprised to see it in mine so I have no clue at all what it is doing there or why I wrote it :S I think I have alzheimers or something.

No it's not normal and the parents should be answering some very serious questions from the police and social services however before I completely condemn them I will say that I don't know all the facts.
