So these are not Barnsley players then? 1 O'Grady (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 2 Scotland (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 3 Dagnall (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 4 RNL (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 5 Rose (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 6 Cofie (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 7 Clark (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a striker) 8 Jennings (listed on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk as a midfielder/striker) And that's before we mention Oates who has played in friendlies this season. I get that people say RNL/Rose/Clark/Cofie 'arent ready' to play yet but until he was given a chance the same was said about Stones. I personally believe that RNL is definitely ready and so is Rose and Cofie. Also we aren't talking about having players capable of playing 46 90 minute games as the first choice striker are we? Surely we already have our first choice strikers and the rest are cover and options. It amazes me that we have people saying that having 2 or 3 people as cover for each position is overkill yet when it comes to strikers almost everybody seems to accept that we need to be getting into double figures for the cover for up front.
Well I've just read the article when Flitcroft was stepping up his search for a left back and I looked at the teamsheet for the game on that day, the game before it and the game after it and the players I listed all featured in those three games so they surely can't have been injured. Of course we have a lot of players who have played left back because due to our lack of proper cover in the past we have been forced to try to play as many people as we can there to try to find a good un, unfortunately we couldn't which is why we have moved onto the next one. By the logic of saying that 8 players have played there before therefore we have 8 players for that position it seems silly that we signed Dibble when Hassell has played in goal before. Everyone has their own opinion, mine is that the position that nearly cost us big time last season hasn't been strengthened. It seems I'm the only one who thinks that though so fair enough.
Prior to coming to Barnsley Kennedy played his entire career at left back. McNulty started his Barnsley career at left back and only moved into the middle to cover for the injured Edwards. It'd be wrong to claim they were only there to 'fill in'. I don't understand your flippancy when I was simply trying to answer the question you asked at the beginning of the thread.
Wisey also played at left back against Blackpool on Boxing Day 2011, when Keith played Maccavelli at right back. Not one of his brighter ideas. . As for SuperTyke, we have 3 Championship proven strikers. Then an Academy lad who is unlikely to be anything other than an impact sub again. And then another young lad who struggled in League One and is weeks behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness. Reuben has never played up front since turning pro. I do see him as more suited to that position, or as a number 10. But I am liking the look of him at LWB/LB. His display against Hull was better than owt I have seen from Golbourne. Clark is a midfielder. Jennings has never played at this level, and not even at League One level as a striker. . So basically, yes we do need a striker.
Still think COG on his own with either Mellis or Cwyka off him is an option. Not a first choice one but an option nevertheless.
Of course we do we have 3 first choice experienced forwards. Dagnall has scored 3 league goals from normal play in 18 months. Scotland is clearly to be mainly used as an impact sub. We are desperately thin up front. One bad injury to O'Grady and we are stuffed.
I will go for yes, we are light on senior strikers. Only actually 3 listed there and 1 of them can't play 90mins. Kennedy is the cover at LB. RNL too if we play wingbacks.
I'd say that RNL, Clark and Jennings are more attacking midfielders than strikers. We don't know much about Cofie, but if Flicker has just signed him and isn't counting him as the 4th senior striker then he obviously isn't ready. Rose will be the 5th striker , getting some game time in the cups + when there's injuries. I'd love to see him get a decent run of games this year. So there.
Only as good as your strikers Dagnall isnt going to get enough goals, Scotland doesnt have the match fitness to play regularly, we have O Grady then a massive gap, if Mansford cant get a deal done for an experienced striker, the summer recruitment is incomplete and we're exposed.
At the moment we have Scotland - I think he will be a "bit part player" O'Grady - first on list Dagnall - works hard, sometimes effective, sometimes out of depth. Cofie - remains to be seen. Jennings - Not a striker Lazarus - Striker? Never been played as one? Rose - Like him, but not sure he's ready yet Clark - Midfielder, surely? Do we really need to be spending money signing another? So, in my view, yes... an established striker is exactly what we need.
Agree, with the exception of Danny Rose. Not convinced he'll ever be a threat. We need a striker that's ready to challenge O'Grady and Dagnall now, not in a couple of months/years time.
I don't doubt that we are. Flicker has said he wants another striker. The squad is looking good already, but a quality striker would finish it off.
