Not even a yellow card challenge. It didn't look anything like a red card from the Ponty but as usual we get nothing from another hopelessly inept ref.

"I have to side with this even though im 2 or 3 seats away from jay"

This would be a rubbish forum if we all thought the same, even if we did sit on top of one another! :)

I reckon from the different opinions we've got it shows the decision was debatable. Could have gone either way. There'll be plenty of challenges like that this season, some will get sent off, some won't.

What? Was their lad not just as guilty then? So by your reckoning they both should go as both jumped in. It's sad that football is becoming none contact and that referees are being ruled by players.

It's clearly debateable and other players will get sent off in similar circumstances but many more wont

I had an excellent.view from the West Upper and for me it wasn't even a foul he got to the ball first one footed.

If it was a sending off a Wigan player should also have gone 2 mins earlier when he went to ground and Jennings backed out rather than risk getting hurt. By the way I don't think it was a sending off either The only difference to me was the reaction of the Wigan players

Reckless perhaps but I think the ref had already lost the game at that point when he just called their captain over to give their no 8 a 2nd warning, why it wasn't a booking I'll never know. That told Wigan they could get away with whatever they wanted. How come none of their players picked up so much as a booking for the melee after the foul. The ref let Wigan do his job - bunch of prima donnas.
Don't get me wrong, we'd already lost the game by that point, a shame because the first 2 goals were both scored when we were having good spells. I think we should have just shut up shop and played damage limitation after the sending off as we were never going to get back into it after that.

Which player are you talking about? Both are leant back (LOOK AT THE WIGAN PLAYER FFS) both feet forward. Jennings got there first, wigan player kicked Jennings and crocked himself. Are your eyes painted on?

I said it at time, it was never a foul let alone a sending off. He goes with right foot, knee clatters Maloney and left follows through and knocks ball away, it's what used to be known as a SLIDE TACKLE.

Maloney is a complete pussy and didnt fancy 50/50, look how he tries dipping his toe to flick it over Jenno,,if he had a pair of balls he would have gone in same and both could have writhed around for 10 secs.CRUNCH

Watson reaction makes refs mind up for him, like Wigan did to him all game. Billy big timers calling shots, ****ers.

Only just seen the footage don't think it was a foul his right foot got the ball the wigan pansy fell over the ball as for taking quite a lot of the player, so what norman hunter chopper harris and the like made a living playing like that and are still rightly remembered for it. a decision just as bad was their 2nd goal Holt was probably onside but there was another of their players stood possibly a yard offside and probably only a couple of feet away from the ball

I dint think it was a sending off live, now i have seen the replay im even more convinced. He took ball with right foot that wasnt reckless, his left foot to the side of the player. Not even a yellow in my book. Interesting to see the frames of teh video a few secs after where he was intimidated / surrounded by 4 Wigan players. I had a friend from Wigan sat with me. His view was that Wigan have had bad refs for 8 years in the prem, looks like this has reversed and looks likethey are getting all the decisions in their favour now. I think he was even embarrassed overall how biased the ref was. Given Wigan were the better team they dont need extra help.

Too many on here making their judgments from video footage. I bet the referee would like to do the same but unfortunately he cannot. He sees both sets of players approaching the ball, the Wigan player stays on his feet whilst the Barnsley player attempts a lunging tackle with what appears to be both feet. I have a similar view from the East Stand Lower and my thoughts at the time was this could be red. I would hope that the antics of the other Wigan players would not have influenced the ref, but the player staying down as long as he did might have. I am not suggesting the referee was right or wrong with this decision but seeing as he only has a view in "realtime", I can understand how he came to it. We have to live with that and move on.

what's his point? that he got the ball first and therefore wasn't a red? if it is, he needs to pack that game in straight away. one joey barton is more than enough

His point is that the other player looks clearly more reckless than he is. His left leg isnt involved, hes winning the ball, and its not reckless.

Had the same view as the camera (only lower) and thought at the time it was a good tackle. Aint seen nowt to change my mind. The Wigan player, after extensive treatment, just walked off the pitch(as required by the rules) with not the slightest limp. The player had been sent off so there wasn't any need to even fake one;)

I take it he's reading these forums then? Most of us realise it shouldn't have been a red but he should probably just let it drop if it's not being contested (which is won't be). He just needs to suck it up and move on, unfortunate as it is.
