The rules these days are interpreted by different people. If the rules were consistently followed by all officials then there wouldn't be half the grief.
Looks as though the Wigan player has two feet off the ground! But that is only one image. Who would be a referee?
EXACTLY, we are all still debating if it was a red or not some are saying yes others saying no. The Ref gets to see it once at full speed, so mistakes will always be made, but that is the game of footie. If every decision was correct we wouldnt need forums like this.
And the players are fully aware of that so they know their reaction will have an impact on the ref's decision. The Wigan players swarmed around Jennings like he'd just shot their Grandmas, causing a huge scrum when Barnsley players went in to protect him... Red card inevitable.
If it was there player that had made the challenge do you think our players would have reacted the same.
Yes. Similar thing happened at Blackpool last year after a very innocuous challenge on Stephen Foster...
It is something that needs addressing. There is just no respect left in football. For either fellow players or officials, one of the main culprits for this MONEY.
And the media. They fail to condemn it, indeed some of the commentators/experts encourage cheating and regard it as a crucial part of the game. "There was clear contact, so he's entitled to go down..." etc etc. If cheats were repeatedly exposed and shamed on radio and tv it would make a difference. They focus on the mistakes of officials but rarely condemn the shameful behaviour of multi million pound players and what goes in the Prem generally filters down to the lower leagues...
Spot on. Watching the old boys on Match of the Day encouraging this kind of cheating and completely failing to condemn cheats stops me watching it. The "professional" reaction of the Wigan players got Jennings sent off and I'd fully expect even the spineless FA to overturn this one.
Worth an appeal I'd say Not 2-footed and not high, only worth a booking. The lad he tackled should have been booked at least once in the first half but the ref was very lenient with him. Sh*t Refs, we only get sh*t refs......
What should have been a red card was Watson getting involved and before that McManaman with his petty trips which every 1 should have been a yellow. And don't get me started on the holding by there giant's in defense who went down when breathed on.
They were shocking for that. Don't see how wraping our arms around comeone to hold them isn't a foul.
It was a yellow in my opinion. What annoys me is within seconds you get people saying on twitter saying it was 2 footed or there wasn't any contact & then you see it on tele & it was neither, don't comment if you haven't seen. The referee was frustrating. Twice Mcmanaman dove in front of me & the referee & linesman bought it, the 3rd time he was actually fouled & the ref waved play on! The raving over Watson annoys me too, if he gets booked as he should've been early doors he isn't able to put the same tackles in & boss the midfield.
personally didn't even think it was a foul, never mind a card, but then i was known as "gritty" when i played sunday league
More pressing now is are we appealing it? If so he can play tomorrow. Wouldn't see an appeal as frivolous anyway looking at these sort of images
Nothing on the official site so it doesnt look like we are appealing it - to be honest I would be surprised if we did as I cant see it being overturned I think the FA will go with the view of the ref on the pitch as he clearly saw the incident so there is no chance of it being changed. If we couldnt get the Hume incident changed on the basis of clear video evidence there is no chance of this one. We will take the ban and move on
