I've always liked David Perkins for his attitude and all round tidiness as a player but I'm starting to wonder if he brings enough to the party. I also believe that Etuhu and Digby if they both stay fit, will become our first choice centre midfield pairing before Christmas. Perks has played getting up for 80 games and has scored only 2 goals, he doesn't create many, hasn't got great vision and doesn't win many headers for the obvious reason. He's ok with the ball in areas where he can't hurt anyone and although he looks the part this is why he's spent most of his career in the lower leagues. Just what he was doing for their first goal on Saturday was baffling. Any views?
I'd agree, at least in part. Certainly can't see how he could compete against the more dynamic Digby and Etuhu if both are fit. Offensively he offers little but his commitment and desire have given him the chance at ths level which given the paucity of talent when he signed he grasped. Going forward if we are to move forward we need players who can drive us there. No disrespect at all to Perkins here who has many admirable traits. Certainly pairing him in a two with Dawson is not a good option.
He's our best player by far! He does alot more than you think, tidying up breaking play up, runs and runs and runs and runs, he gets quite a few assists aswel. If you ask opponents supporters they will say that albino looks a great player
Disagree completely. You don't go from player of the season to 3rd choice defensive midfielder behind a young kid and a converted winger in the space of one game. He's incredibly fit, surprisingly strong, has quick feet, breaks up play and is calm in possession. He makes us tick. Take him out the team and you'll see the impact it has. First name on the team sheet for me and a few below par performances aren't going to change that. Remember that every set of opposition fans single him out after the game as our best player.
Disagree 1st choice for me every time see how many clubs would be in for him if we decided he could go!
Etuhu, Perkins and Mellis in a midfield 3 is a winning formula. Jennings behind O'grady up front. lovely.
Think it would be a bad idea to drop perks! I'm not his biggest fan but think he should be in the team. I think his game is more breaking down play and giving the ball to players that can hurt teams in he final third. Abit like what etuhu does. But for some reason he try's to take players on and do to much in bad areas of the pitch and that's not his game.
Definitely not a basher but in terms of assists 5 since he joined us. He would still be in a midfield 3 for me at the moment.
A lot of Perkins work is off the ball and goes un-noticed. I thought he had a poor game on Saturday by his standards, simply because he let Watson run the show.
He's certainly not had a top notch game for a while but even then it's no reason to drop him. As other people have said, I think he brings a lot to the table which we are now probably starting to take for granted. Nevertheless this 'young kid' and 'converted winger' are very, very good players and will inevitably take over eventually especially given Perkins' age. For me, Perkins still has a huge role to play this season and most probably next if we can keep him fit and injury free. Although I don't agree with the OP, what I would say is that his days as a regular starter at Championship level are numbered.
I still rate Perks and if fit will probably start. Perks is a key member of the team and when he plays well the team clicks.
Kelvin Etuhu isn't half the player Perkins or Dawson is. He's a 5 times better athlete but doesn't have anything else.
100% effort but limited ability imho. Pushed to his limits at this level. Think Dawson and Perkins are too negative a combination in midfield. One or the other I reckon - and Dawson is the more skilful player...
Disagree, etuhu is brilliant, etuhu and Perkins in the middle we either win or draw. Now that tells you something. Etuhu is twice the player of Dawson, Evan tho a do like Dawson, because of his attitude
