So glad it's going to happen, to piss Richard Scudamore and the premier league off.

And the football league, and the fans, and have a huge negative impact on Barnsley's finances.

why will it have a negative impact on us, we get roughly the same crowds regardless.

Because if the football league continued during the world cup we would see significantly lower crowds and if there was a winter break it would cost the club a fortune due to the fact that everything about the club is geared up to work during the winter and also the crowds during the summer while everyone was on holiday would be lower.

Blatter and the rest of the corrupt world cup committee should be sacked for this scandal. FIFA have been incompetent for years but this takes them to an even lower point than they have achieved previously.

Surely the championship couldn't carry on in that scenario as a good proportion of the top teams players would be at least in squads of qualified teams and if they lost them for six or seven weeks or longer if injured or suspended the league would be a farce

No need for the championship and lower to change the fixture schedule at all.

Ignoring the fact that there are a few teams with players who would be involved if we played during the world cup our attendances would dip drastically with only season ticket holders attending and at some games if they clashed even season ticket holders wouldn't turn up.

Could be a good thing IMO.
A winter shutdown here for 2 months, World Cup Football on the telly when the snow is all around. Start the league again when the weather is better.

The main point about this whole mess is that Qatar bid for, and won, the world cup which is a summer competition. There was no caveat allowing this to be moved to the winter so if it is moved I hope every major football association takes legal action against FIFA. I also hope those associations that lost out to Qatar take legal action because it is now clear this bid was awarded for reasons away from football. So FIFA may also consider cancelling their decision and award it to another associating which means that Qatar can then take legal action. FIFA have architected this whole shambles, I hope it brings them down.

Awarding a summer tournament to a country that can't host it in the summer. Madness.

Exactly what you'd expect from FIFA though.

    Exactly right, good post
But FIFA does all its dirty dealings behind closed doors and have usually bought the decisions well before announcements are made public look at the biddings fiasco its the whole lot of them that's corrupt not just blatter etc. The English fa had a real cause for complaint with the way they were encouraged to and Blatter knowing full well Qatar were getting it but chose to dull down the complplaints.wonder if it was anything to do with the all expenses paid trip to the Arab country to look at the proposals that did it

Chances is that there will be a winter break. And the club will know that well in advance, so they'll have time to plan for earlier starts to the season or whatever. I bet the percentage of fans on holiday at one time never surprasses 1% of the average attendance.

Had to laugh at one fan on the news yesterday saying "Why should the rest of the world be inconvenienced by Qatar" - not sure anyone has pointed out to her that half of the footballing world as been inconvenienced every 4 years!

Although I would argue that half of the football world knowingly entering a summer competition every four years isn't really them being inconvenienced, it is them choosing to do so and those nations will also have plans in place which accommodate the timing of the cup. To suddenly change it will be as big an inconvenience for those who play during the summer normally as it will be for us who don't as they will have to change their regular plans. Lets face it, FIFA gave Qatar the world cup because of money and money alone, they did so fully in the knowledge that after the announcement they would then start trying to change the timing because they knew full well that Qatar wasn't a suitable choice for a summer world cup. The fact that all of this wasn't publicly documented in the bidding process proves to me that FIFA were and are corrupt as there is no way in hell that anyone will convince me that Blatter and his cronies didn't realise Qatar was hot before they gave them the world cup. I suppose the FIFA arseholes could always use their big brown envelopes as fans though.
