As long as we don't adopt their stupid f*cking song for Paddy. Already seen one person on WAB refer to him as a "fenian" mindless, uneducated moron.
Liverpool has probably one the best city centres in Europe. Granted it has its **** hole areas, but also has some exclusive areas to go with lots of nice areas. And just on the other side of the river its a very wealthy part of the country.
Re: He was a popular lad up there Both of the old firm club's fans are as low as a snake's belly, wouldn't you agree BL?
Re: He was a popular lad up there What kind of stupid comment is that? I'll tell you what would happen, the whole minutes silence would be shouted down. The IRA are a murderous shower of terrorist who would rather fight their cause through the bullet rather than through the ballot box. And to even things up the UDA and others are no better. There is one hell of a lot of ignorance being shown here on this forum by one or two individuals either that or they just find it funny to muck rake. This IRA/UDA Celtic / Rangers thing is pathetic. Supporting and arguing over events which happened over 300 years ago. FFS Grow up. It should be all about football. 11 v 11 not fighting over religion. Unfortunately religious sectarianism is still rife here in Scotland, more so in the west and until the authorities here in Scotland do something positive instead of pussyfooting around the issue nothing will change in Scottish football.
Re: He was a popular lad up there CBA getting into this **** anymore. People complained about me bringing Rangers/Celtic discussions up - now people cant stop talking about them Find it very sad if you have no interest in the topic. Yes it was 300 years ago but miners stike was 30 years ago and still talked about as if it was yesterday . And will still be talked about in years to come. End of the day its what people belive in and no matter how long ago people still feel very strongly about it.
Re: He was a popular lad up there How did Celtic fans reconcile the fact that he was a bit of a hero for Northern Ireland?
Re: He was a popular lad up there 100% correct. Well said Ian. To compare them to the Britsh Army was a rather crass and thoughtless comment.
Re: He was a popular lad up there Celtic fans in the past don't seem to have a problem with that. And why should they? Past players for N Ireland actually include Neil Lennon. He actually had to retire from International football because of threats to his life and family from the Protestant fringe in N Ireland. How sad is that? All a pretty fked up and complicated situation which IMO could be radically reduced if only Celtic and Rangers came out and publicly denounced those sectarian activists. But they won't because they get most of their funding from organisations which support such views. That I'm afraid is fact. You really do have to do much more research into it all to try and understand what exactly is going on. I very much doubt that many of you have had the opportunity of attending a match in which either of the ugly sisters are involved, and I don't mean friendlies.
Re: He was a popular lad up there BL This all started because I made a comment about Paddy McCourt possibly being glad to be out of the hate filled goldfish bowl that is Glagow. Of course I could be wrong. How old are you BL? I'm 57 and I remember the miners strike but it really had no real effect on my daily living but the political implications certainly have. Why should people nowadays not still talk of it as many striking miners are still living with the scars of those dark days. As for the Battle of the Boyne do you actually believe that that is relevant in today's society. I'd be more than happy to hear your reply on this question.
Re: He was a popular lad up there Indeed it should be about football, the creeping militarization in all aspects of our society is a worry in my opinion. All public gatherings these days require an obligetory celebration of "our boys" and the brave soldiers, little thought is given to the other side, to the faceless civilians caught up in our oil wars. At least the original IRA, I mean the Michael Collins IRA, deserve some respect for trying to remove the boot of imperial oppression - the IRA are a murderous shower of terrorists? At least they fought for a cause, what are we fighting for? What was the point of the Iraq wars exactly? To bring peace? I'm sure all those dead children are very grateful they were liberated from the Saddam Huissain regeme.
