First question is where was Dale Jennings today? is he injured? it makes no sense. Secondly Flitcroft really has to look at his substitutions. Last week against Charlton he cost us the game taking off Mellis. This week we start with 2 up top when we should of packed the midfield and played 1 up top. then we lose a man and he takes off a midfielder on and brings on a defender yet leaves two up top? So strange dont understant it at all
He didn't bring on a defender today. He took an attacking player off and brought Perkins on to try to stem the flow in midfield. How he thought the leakiest defence in the football league could cope a man short I'll never know. A striker should have been sacrificed for a defender but then we all know that the only able replacement in defence will not get played for reasons that cannot be ability related.
He's been to the 'Special Human Being' factory to 'galvanize' and 'reboot'. Or, he's been made to train with the kids like Bobby and Reubs and Digby.
He played him last season towards the end. Ok, he had no choice back then, but still. Am trying, Flicker.
For a start if he'd have played one up front he'd have been mullered on here by quite a few for being negative. You've done the opposite. He gets mullered for substituting mellis, yet it's mellis who is the one who's never prepared to pull his sleeves up and put a shift in. He's a talented lad but his talent alone won't get him far in this division. League two and the non-leagues are littered with talented lazy *******s. I hope he gets the message as he's probably the most able we have skill wise. Many on here have been asking for a big powerful centre back for a long time. He signs one, and the moans are he's slow and an accident waiting to happen. Dale Jennings didn't get picked today. Might have been injured. Might not have been. Would have had no effect on the game. The point is that there are many opinions, many of them conflicting and voiced on here. If there's no obvious common opinion on something it can hardly be concluded that Flicker is wrong in his. The side have had a poor start to the season. Individuals have made errors and collectively we have been poor. I'm not sure I'd say anyone has played that well, maybe dagnall, who IMO is the most undeservedly slated player on here this season. Flicker hasn't made the decisions I would have done, and maybe has got things wrong. But it's a bit rich to constantly question his decisions and substitutions. Do you honestly think after m'voto was sent off for breathing on Rhodes it would have made any difference who he took off and/or brought on?he could have brought three on and only one off they'd have still got beat. We were awful today. It wasn't the substitutions to blame for the ineptitude of the first half. If anything he sorted it out for the second half, though admittedly Blackburn were coasting. We need a win. It'll come. Hopefully not too late. Flicker might turn out to be terrible. Might not. He deserves a run of dozen games with his own squad before the jury is out though.
Let's be honest, you can't play Bobby centre half alongside Mvoto. He needs pace alongside him. And you can't play Bobby centre half alongside Wiseman and Kennedy in a 3 because there's no height. We've Cranie and Nyatanga to come back in too. We have the players but they need to play together over a run of games. Plus the defence were decent last week, it was the changes in midfield that caused the problems.
Bobby at centre half with Cranie and Nyatanga either side in a three. Which is what I've said since day one, once all are available. Against the more physical sides, you play M'Voto perhaps.
As one of the 200 or so who did go, can I ask you your thoughts on why Reuben has again been overlooked? And this isn't about today's result etc. I'm just wondering why folk are bleating on about where Jennings is when Reuben is also missing, who in my opinion is the better player of the two. Certainly more proven at this level anyway. I'm finding it difficult to accept that an unfit McCourt waltzes straight onto the bench whilst Reuben is left twiddling his thumbs.
Its a crazy league again by looks, we concede four goals on opening day of season then reduce league leaders to not even a shot on target, completely dominate a team get 2 goals up then draw 2_2 then look to be all guns blazing for a win at Blackburn till refs decision. Its unpredictable imo
I wouldn't particularly have a problem with that Andy, but then again I wasn't one who particularly thought we needed a big nasty centre half. I'd rather have a footballer. Mind you, I do think Mvoto has potential. He was at fault for Charlton's second by chasing the ball instead of holding the line but by and large his reading of the game was pretty sound.
Didn't Jennings get a 3 game ban for the sending off against Wigan? Wouldn't today have been the last of those? I didn't think the cup games counted for league bans, but happy to be informed otherwise.
I agree on Big John. There's something there to work on. Flitcroft obviously feels - as with Wiseman et al - that playing him regularly at this level will improve him. I hope it works. But for me, Hassell has never (not since 2004 anyway) had a bad run of form. He's consistent if nothing else. Adds experience to an inexperienced defence at this level. and his reading of the game is second to none. Oh, and he's better than everyone - other than M'Voto - in the air. Watford, Leicester, Cardiff and Palace last season in the run-in, he proved he is far from over the hill. I hope Flitcroft considers him fairly. Otherwise, why give him a new deal? Being made to train with the kids all week seems a tad strange. I admit I wanted a big nasty centre half. But only for certain games - Wednesday etc.
Flitcroft in his pre-match interview said Jennings was available for today. "Yeah, we've got Dale back" were his words.
