Has he ever been in a good championship defence? No? Do people just love him because he once re-tweeted whitey and now he thinks hes relevant. Ridiculous and overated
Completely and utterly agree with you pal, like 100%. Hassell has never been in a successful defence. Most over rated player in bfc history.
Bobbys has something most of our defenders don't have... Pride for this club. He's not the most gifted player we have and certainly with him now being 33 he's gonna decline as a player. But I'd have 11 Bobby Hassell's in the team over players that only care about they're wages. I don't understand how any Barnsley fan can dislike him. Since I've joint this forum I've seen quite a few dislike him and I've seen one poster practically take stabs at him in everything he posts, but thankfully that tool has been banned.
I could make a decent arguement that in the 50 yrs I've been watching Barnsley we've never had a good defence, Hassells been consistantly the best defender at Oakwell since our return to the Championship, that includes Shackell and Nyatanga first time round. To not even put him on the bench and not be infront of McNulty ,Wiseman, Kennedy, M'Voto on the team sheet is totally baffling.
No he hasn't ever been part of a good championship defence yet he has played under five managers at this level so hardly his fault that this has never been addressed. As far as being a defender goes he has been the best and most versatile defender at the club for years yet there are still a fee that take cheap shots at him. Baffling.
I could kinda understand it had it been hassel sent of yesterday or he had been the cause of some of the conceded goals this season, but Christ on a bike, he hasn't even played yet, but if it helps em sleep at night good luck to em
Exactly, ten years service to one club and after playing a total of zero minutes this season he his getting stick from some fans.
We've done seven consecutive years in the Championship without being relegated. Bobby has played a hell of a lot of those games. In that time much bigger teams than us with tons more money to spend have been relegated. Because of the lack of quality we've had in midfield and up front, due to our lack of funds, our defence have been under the cosh in a hell of a lot of games. But the likes of Foster and Hassell have held firm in enough games to keep us in this league. Foster has been shipped out, Hassell has been frozen out and we're now bottom of the league conceding goals for fun. M'Voto has never played in this league before. Cranie and Nyatanga have been in teams in a similar position to us but failed in their attempts to avoid relegation. Our two defensive players with all the experience of keeping a team in this league, battling against the odds year in, year out and always coming out on top have now pretty much been discarded. I think that's a real shame. I don't think Bobby is an automatic first choice any more. Wiseman's pace gives him the edge at right back and I'd go for two bigger players if we're only playing two central defenders. However, if we're playing three at the back I still think he's the best choice in the sweeper position. But if Flicker prefers a different three that's fine, but I think leaving him off the bench is criminal. Bobby can play right back, left back, centre half, midfield, just about anywhere. All that experience and all that versatility an there's no place for him in an 18 man squad? Apparently Jim O'Brien played the majority of the game yesterday at right back, while I believe Bobby was commentating for Barnsley World. ******* madness.
Agree totally. With a fully fit squad his time is probably over, but with 2 central defenders injured it's madness he's not involved somewhere.
While Whitey does talk him up too much due to being in with the Hassell family, he should be at least on the bench.
I'd have him in the squad for sure and if we're playing a back 3 he'd be very close to starting games for me; probably ahead of TK. He's consistent, reliable, experienced and multi-positional - ideal qualities to have on the bench. When he has been brought on (last season), he looked up to speed almost immediately and had an impact on the game. Some players, brought on to sure a game up, like Digby this season and McNulty last, didn't look comfortable straight away and we're caught cold; I don't believe Bobby would have been.
Dear oh dear. I am not "in with the Hassell family" whatever that means. But you carry on talking ****, lad. If it gets you away from tossing yourself off over John Cena and other wrestlers I'm all for it. Oh, and neither do I talk him up too much. I've not mentioned him other than selecting him in the 'your team..' threads, and then last night because I find it utterly bizarre that he's sat with Matt and Adam in the commentary box rather than at least on the bench where a player of his ability and experience ought to be.
