Just to the south west side of the motorway there are plans to flatten woodland to build services. for or against?
Against. Aren't there enough on this stretch of motorway now? There's Tibshelf at what 29, then Wooley at 38. Fair enough when there was nowt from Donnington Park to Wooley but there's now Trowell too.
Their argument is that anyone coming from the other end of the M18 won't have any services until woolley which is dangerous. I'm a driver and I have this amazing ability to use motorway junctions to leave the motorway and stop at one of the MANY cafes and toilet facilities thoughout the country. Another major issue for me is that the site they have chosen is right smack bang in the middle of the route for HS2 which would mean it being ripped out again in a few years.
HS2 will never happen. Do you want to live in a suburb of London as that is basically what it is aiming to do.
I'm against it and will happily chain myself to a tree to stop it. The M1 has done enough damage to the local environment anyway, why should we let Starbucks, McDonalds and the like profit out of destroying the bit of countryside we have left?
Realistically who does it affect? There are services at the end of the M180. If you were to take the bizarre trip from there to Woolley via m18 and m1 it would still take less than an hour. So this must be to benefit folks coming on at doncaster or the a1 and then heading North but coming off before Woolley. Dobthese people even exist?! There is a truck stop at Maltby. Definite no as far as im concerned.
Although not sign posted on the motorway there are now services at the Wakefield /Denby Dale/ Durkar turn off just off the roundabout, Spa shop, starbucks drive through, petrol station and Subway, shops open all night.
Against. Using danger to drivers as a reason to build them sounds like a right load of old *****. Everybody has managed just fine all these years, I'm sure we'll survive without them.
Against. Service stations are a way for big companies such as m&s and W.H Smiths, to get away with charging an extortionate amount of money for the same product you can purchase off of the high street at half the price. Its the same thing as charging £2 for a bottle of coke at Oakwell, you can't go anywhere else so they help themselves to your wallet.
It would create a few local jobs? Although I agree it's not like there is a lack of places to get fuel or food in the area so it isn't exactly needed.
as an ex long distance driver I very rarely used the services due to the fact you needed a 2nd mortgage for a brew and I think at one bit there were services every 50 miles on the M1 and they've stuck a few more in since then
Is this the same place as 'Chapeltown' just south of Barnsley or a new place that has sprung up? ????????????
