For those suggesting 3-5-2 is the reason we ship so many goals..

The statistics suggest otherwise;

1.) Against Wigan we played four at the back and conceded 4.
2.) The 5 goals conceded at Blackburn came after we switched to a back 4 due to the red card.
3.) 3 of tonights goals came after Kennedy went off and we had a back four.

It seems that we cant defend with a back four to me. I believe once we've got Nyatanga, Cranie and Mvoto available in a three, we will look much more solid and not need to panic as much!

 

Yes but we also show no attacking threat in a 3-5-2.

 

2 of those 3 have been relegated from this division (as the bottom club and conceded most goals)and the other one has never played at this level before! Not a very inspiring set of defenders really ! Hope you are right though, because we need to start picking up some wins !

 

The Charlton match for instance; walking it and not a hope that Charlton would score until the defence made basic mistakes due to lack of concentration.

 

We do when we play with an actual attacking midfielder to link up play

 

I'll grant you that argument but we managed it last season with the same players so hopefully we can get back.into that attacking rhythm.

I cant see it pal, every team so far (even scunny) have realised all you have to do is mark Mellis out of the game and then the only thing we have is to resort to long balls and crosses from deep.

Not sure why you'd play wingbacks as well as wingers? Wouldn't Golbourne and Wiseman be running into the back of McCourt and Jennings all the time?

 

Idealy Jacob Mellis but he was playing as a centre midfielder

 

I don't understand why Mellis isn't the first name on the team sheet.

I get that people question his all round game but in terms of goalscoring threat and someone with that bit of quality he is all we've got to be fair.

Harsh on Cywka / JOB and RNL let's get it right the Game Time Mellis as had in the Hole (Luxury Player Position IMO) against any of these lads is untrue lets try one of these for a fews games because I think Cywka and RNL would Score more than Mellis given the Game Time and Probably wouldn't get caught in Possession as much as Mellis to suggest he should be the 1st player on the Team-sheet is horrendous it was his fault Charlton got back into that Game getting caught in Possession as we were breaking from a Charlton Corner !!
