For the past four or five years we have some how some way avoided relegation which on the balance of things we have deserved to go down in my opinion three times. Leeds and Portsmouth being deducted those points which consequently kept us up in two different seasons last season due to some splendid motivational work from Flicker some strong indvidual performances and a lot of LUCK we again avoided relegation. I used to go all of the away games even Plymouth on a tuesday night to watch us go and lose 3-0 i've just lost all passion and dedication for them. I'm not patronising or criticising anyones decision to go and watch the lads but for me personally i've lost the urge to go and watch them. I have the tattoo on my arm and never shy away from the fact i'm a Barnsley fan despite living out of the area but I have lost my love for the club. I thought this season would be different and we would be competitive and give a real account of ourselves but once again I feel left unsatasfied (like my women) and just have no passion. The only games i'll go to is Wednesday home and away because I hate them that much I get more enjoyment out of abusing them for 90 minutes and then after the inevitable happens and we lose I feel like ripping everyone of their throats out. I might get abuse for this post or might even be ignored but I had to put in writing how out of love I am with my football team.
Just to say Leeds points deduction made no difference to keep us up. Always followed Barnsley but it has certainly become about the social gathering and less and less about on the field expectations.
My town, my team, my club Always watched them and always will. Seen far worse than currently. There'll be more lows but there'll be highs too. I've stopped worrying about the lows as I can't change them, but I really enjoy the highs. That's why I go.
Certainly not going to abuse you LJ..it would be nice to have serious aspirations every year..but for clubs like us and the majority of the clubs in the Football League its not going to happen, once in the top flight since the Good Rev started the club tells its own story, other than the odd relegation and promotion back things are unlikely to change much, when I started going we spent most of the time floundering about in the old 4th division so to me floundering about in the Championship seems a much better bet, unless we suddenly start acquiring capacity crowds or a billionaire owner..who wishes to risk becoming a millionaire owner(which apparently is a football accountants joke)...things won't change much, all you can do is enjoy the occasional good times when they happen. And like Redstar says..copious amonts of Ale and like Jay says last season wasn't luck..it was earned.
The whole Portsmouth been deducted points kept us up is one of the stupidest things I hear. They lost points early doors in the season and we were miles in front of the drop zone. If Pompey would've had another 10 points and we'd of been closer to the drop zone we'd of significantly strengthened our squad to make sure we didn't get dragged into a relegations crap. As it was we didn't need to as we only won 2 games after January (I think) and still finished 8 points clear. Also Pompey lost points because they were in massive debt. If they'd of been in less debt they'd of had less points as they'd of had a weaker squad. Simple
