    if good money comes along for players with 12 months or less on a contract, financial prudence takes over. If a player thinks he can eat out on last seasons performances, I trust Flitcroft will see it and if he's given funds to replace, its a win win.

    If Mellis does go we don't have a mainly creative footballer in central midfield. And if Etuhu's out Saturday then we've lost midfield. Dearth of quality.

    With the international break looming

    that gives us chance to get the likes of McCourt, Jennings, Digby fit and ready and the loan window opens almost immediately so the kicker is can we eek a point or better out on Saturday then buy some breathing space.

    My guess would be 'undisclosed', but I would expect something in the region of £250k. Any more than that and I'll be pleasantly surprised. Would be nice to bring in a replacement specialist left back though, because I prefer Nyatanga in the middle and I wouldn't ever pick Kennedy and McNulty as a first choice player.

    McCourt will best suited playing through the middle; he doesn't have much pace but can beat a man for fun and pick a pass. He can also play for 60 minutes just like Mellis ;-)
