Dont know if its been mentioned but Mcnulty had a good game on tuesday, even though we did concede 5 goals. However he hardly put a foot wrong and won most aerial battles. I wouldnt mind seeing him play saturday or even at left back.
I will take your view on McNulty, cos you attended and I did not. That said, I find it hard to believe that a defender can have a good game when you get whacked 5-1? McNulty is not the answer to our defensive weaknesses.
I left when they scored their second, so my opinion's not worth much, but until that point I thought McNulty was playing very well. His reading of the game was excellent, he won his aerial battles and his passing found a Barnsley shirt. I thought Wiseman looked decent too, while Dawson put himself about in midfield. I wouldn't give you tuppence for rest of 'em though.
I haven't been to many games that Mcnulty has been involved in. So after reading how bad everyone on here reckons he is I was expecting a bad show from him on Tuesday. But he actually played well
Agree I think both McNulty and Wiseman played well on Tuesday. Could not fault either of them for their performance on the night, so how were 5 goals conceded?
Funny how people watch the same game but see different things. I thought McNulty started ok (1st 20 mins) but faded badly, especially when we reverted to a back 4. He looked ok stepping out of the defence and making a pass but when it came to actually defending he was woeful. Maybe his best position is LB or defensive midfield? Wiseman played ok considering, but the rest of the defence we're chasing shadows apart from a couple of well timed tackles from Kennedy. The wingbacks didn't seem to know when to play as a 5 or when to push up into midfield.
It is funny isn't it. Maybe it's just different viewpoints from around the ground or something. I too think McNulty would be better at LB or CDM but I thought, on the whole, he did well Tuesday. Incidentally I didn't notice these well timed tackles from Kennedy. Maybe one after he made his glaring error in the first minute but aside from that the only one I remember is the one that led to them scoring their first goal...
Problem is we are spoilt for choice in the defensive midfield position. The Kennedy tackles were in the 1st half towards the corner of the Ponte/West stand. He made two or three within 5 minutes. Kennedy is an average left back playing out of position. I'd like to add that three good tackles a game is desperately poor. When you're back 5 consists of a right winger, right back, two left backs and one Left back/occasional (weak) centre back you are asking for trouble. Especially against a competent Premier side!
When all the time we have an experienced defender that is not even in the squad! A squad that did not have a single defender on the bench ! Bizarre.
I thought he was solid for 60 minutes or so. As soon as we changed to a back 4 he struggled. Gave away a silly free kick on the edge of the box then a penalty and then got made a fool out of for the 5th. Hopefully the last half hour was down to fatigue from not playing much & that he has got his confidence back.
