If we have a top club established in South Yorkshire with an investment of 100s of £MILLIONS while all the other clubs are in the lowly position that they are in..........then no matter how good Ben Mansford, Flicka or Maurice is they are wasting their time because Barnsley Football Club along with the Massives and all the rest of the clubs in the area are going nowhere. McCabe says its a game changer for Sheffield United............it is also potentially a game changer for all the rest of the clubs in the area Deadline day has seen £650 MILLION spent on transfers.........the announcement today at Sheffield United could be the start of the demise of competitive football in South Yorkshire MARK MY WORDS
yawn. So sheff Untied get loads of money and end up in the premier division. How does that effect us, Wednesday, Donny and Rotherham. Nothing will change, Suporters of those teams wont suddenly start supporting united, United wont buy all the players we are after because if they are so High up we couldn't afford the players they want anyway, You keep blabbing on about it without any explanation
They already do in Lg1. And isn't it a little bit strange a 'wealthy' Arab invests after deadline day...
Its a game changer for McCabe..can't see it making any difference to us...getting to the premier league and dislodging those at the top is easier said than done.
How do we know this guy is to pump millions in? He's not stated that he's going to do so anywhere, has he? It's just McCabes motormouth running away with him. They'll still be in L1 come the end of the season.
OK..............I'll give you an explanation.............just one example I am old enough to remember the Don Revie years................large car park in Wombwell on Hough Lane - 14 (fourteen) buses going to Elland Road most home matches. That's just from one car park in one area of Barnsley. At the same time 3 to 4 thousand at home matches at the WELL Sheffield Wednesday has had similar impacts during their history in the Barnsley area. And from those era's we still have hundreds if not thousands of Barnsley people going to those grounds because of the history of those clubs. Don't tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about because I see this every week
Lets say a team like Sheff Utd in their present form, if they were in our division, and even in the division below, are likely to be first choice for the kind of players we'd be in for. If they suddenly have millions they'll be looking in different circles then us, so in fact there's less competition.
We were getting not many more than 2000 between 1970 & 75. It went up to 4-5000 between 76/77 when Iley had us near the top 6 then 8000+ from 77/78 season when Clarkey took over. Hard to believe 14 coaches went from Wombwell to Elland road though Nudger. Never heard of that before and organised coach travel for fans in outlying areas in those days wasn't the norm. Plenty went by car to watch leeds but 700 every week by coach from wombwell?
Investment generally means they want something back. The word makes me shiver, let em have it, I say. Means naff all to us.
Why not go for the hat trick Nudge and create another thread about this irrelevant news? **** Sheff Utd.
In fairness, my dad used to go on the supporters bus in the 70s from South Elmsall to Leeds and he's told me a few times that there were buses from all over.
Why not cut out all the months of pain and heartache for yourself Nudge and just start supporting them now? It seems inevitable, so why wait? Don't be a stranger on here, though; we can tolerate a civil Blade or two.
Not sure why you're that worried. You don't watch Barnsley anyway. With or without investment at other Clubs
One thing you've overlooked owd love. 2/3 years from now if & when the blunts are in the Premier who's to say we wont be there with them and we might be pinching fans from Leeds & Wednesday. Now there's a thought.
14 buses from Wombwell, my lardy arse. The missing thousands at Oakwell are more likely to be Man Ure "fans" armed with a Sky Sports subscription. Sadly it doesn't stop them from talking **** on club forums.
Re: On the brink of losing competitive football in South Yorkshire Yes.............I saw them Bit of a mis-print tho on one of my threads...........it should read............as many as 14 buses from the car park at Hough Lane going to Elland Road In those days..............and it might be the same now in the area of Barnsley where I live..........there are as many Leeds and Wednesday fans than there are Barnsley fans (less so for Sheffield United)..........only have to see the shirts and the car stickers to realise that And this is because of the successful history that these clubs have had............while Barnsley was sat in the lower reaches of the leagues. And it could well have been that Barnsley were in the lower leagues because they wernt getting the fans through the gates as a result of people going to watch these other clubs If Sheffield United spend well and get into the Premeirship and then start spending big money (which they will be able to do) like clubs such as Spurs or Liverpool have just done then this is going to throw a shadow over the rest of the clubs in the area
