Does anybody travel over the tops to Manchester on a regular basis? Got to take the parents to airport an know the last time I went that way in June I was sat for ages in traffic thru Tintwhistle & Hollingworth.
Just wondered what a decent time to allow would be or to just go the M62 way.

I travel over to Greater Manchester a couple of times a week and I always use the A635 which runs through Holmfirth and drops you into Oldham. My advice is avoid the A628 at all costs.
Use the 635 and go through Oldham towards Manchester then pick up the M61 and head towards Stockport and the airport.

Depends on what day and time of day. During the night about a hour and half is fine but peak time I'd give yourself 3 hours. Better to be there early.

I've used it about 4 times recently,if you hit it at peak times it's a nightmare,at other times no big problem.

The A628 was shut overnight on Monday due to roadworks. Not sure how long running they are.

We're going on a Saturday if it makes any difference but I would imagine its busy anytime tbh. Just looked at the holmforth way and that may be best bet.

Its a nightmare mate. My car broke down in the traffic just after tintwhistle a couple of weeks ago. I think some of tge roadworks on the M62 have finished now as well. At least it has between Castleford and Leeds which is tge stretch I usually use to get from work.

I always go over the Woodhead when going to and from Manchester and have done for a few years now. It completely depends on the day and time of day that you're going as to how bad it is.

The problem is the traffic lights at Mottram crossroads that can cause queues as far back as Tintwhistle. It's usually fine on weekends, it only took me about 40 minutes to get to the M60 last Sunday morning.

They started on Monday and are running for 14 working days.
