Still wondering what the fuss is about.
Ok I don't have the benefit of Sky Sports, but yet to see him do something creative I haven't seen Butterfield do. Is h really that good?
    Very disappointing tonight.

Completely and utterly over-rated. He's only got the high profile he has because there's absolutely no-one else around of his age, playing in the Premier League who is eligible for England. Dire straits for England if he is all we have to be creative in midfield when Lampard and Gerrard are finished.

Put him in the Spain midfield and see how would play.

Would he be good then? I honestly haven't seen anything to say he would.

I can hear the howls of derision in Madrid from here at the thought of that happening.

Yeah there is no doubt he would have been on here telling us that the likes of Walcot, Wilshere, et al were world beaters and would walk into the Spain team.

Personally yes him constantly popping the ball off short and threading passes to mobile forwards would help him. Tonight he played in a team with no pace going forward IMO

In my opinion, yes. He's still a young lad and it was only his 10th cap for England. Give him a couple of more years and he will develop into a top player.

It's not his fault how the media hype him up.

Admittedly it's a rarity for a young English player to be comfortable on the ball, good defensively as well as going forwards, but he doesn't write the headlines or make ITV commentators wet themselves.

He's allowed development game time surely ?

    No

As a footballing nation, we don't do development of skill, flair & imagination. We ARE great at producing athletic, powerful, pacey automatons who slavishly follow methodical, unimaginative coaching instructions. We are quick to attack the unorthodox, the player who does things off the cuff, the player whose natural talents cannot be found in coaching manuals, the player whose skill cannot be controlled by close minded coaches and their apologetic sycophants.
Unfortunately, these are the ones who run the game. These are also the ones responsible for our nation having a record of one World Cup win out of seventeen attempts (including the current one) and a pathetic zero success out of fourteen European Championship tournaments. Not that they have the balls to shoulder the responsibility & blame. However, they are the future of the game here. The dull, the methodical, the athletic, the fast, the energetic. I'm the dinosaur, not them.
